I just bought a USB720 from Verizon. I have 3 bars, sometimes 4 (with the booster i just bought from the 3gstore), but that doesn't stop my connection from dropping. Its very irritating especially when I need it to be on 24hrs a day for work purposes. I'm thinking about buying a more powerful antenna but if im getting 3 and 4 bars out of 4 possible bars then shouldn't that KEEP me connected? It just drops and then auto reconnects, but not always, i gues its on a "limited" number of attempts and then just stays disconnected. I live in sherman oaks, its a highly populated area so i would assume that Verizon has towers around here, but i dont really know how that works. Its just so frustrating, i have been trying to find a good spot around my house all day and even when i do get 4 bars it STILL drops.... the RSSI is usually around -78 or 80dBm. Should I buy a more powerful antenna? is there a way to determine what the problem is? When I have 2 bars on my Cell phone it sounds clear and never cuts, but with this USB720 its constantly dropping, like every 3 minutes. I honestly can not describe in words how irritating, pissed, helpless, retarded, angry I feel. Its worse than when I used to use Dial up, because at-least Dial up stayed connected...
I have it hooked on to a PC! Not a laptop, so its not like im constantly moving all over the place. I just have so much crap on top of this going on that this is not making things easier, in fact its doing the opposite. but i NEED it to work and stay connected 24 7. Even if it disconnects a few times aday thats fine, but every 3 minutes????
someone please please please for the love of god PLEASE help me... ill be online... all night and morning... |

In your shoes, I'm thinking I'd take the modem back to the nearest verizon store, and get a new one.
In fact, I'd be asking for a USB760. |

try running a ping test in the background that won't time out and see if it stays connected.
Start>run> type "cmd" then in the dos box type ping google.com -t _________________ evdo-tips.com |

They seem to be decent devices, and actually have better than average reception (especially with antenna unfolded). The VZAM software can be troublesome (conflicts on some computers, etc.). Make sure that you at least have the correct version of VZAM for the device, or consider setting up directly on your computer without VZAM (e.g., Network Connections in Windows XP). Only one version of VZAM should be installed. Sometimes it can be very difficult to completely remove a different version of VZAM, and unlike Sprint, Verizon still requires different versions for different devices. I do not know of a generic Novatel manager, but there might be something (maybe from a foreign provider's site).
If it is the device, keep in mind that there were several different versions of firmware. Verizon branded firmwares included 134, 141, and at least one newer. Since Verizon has stopped stocking those, it might have been old stock, possibly with an older firmware. I'm not sure, but I think you can update the firmware using VZAM. That's not to say that the latest Verizon firmware is any better, but it might be worth a shot. _________________ AC595, WRT54G3G |

| Check your ec/io. It’s rare that you drop from low rssi. Most drops are from incomposit ec/io. |

Hello
I had a hard time finding these forums after I made the post but finally found them again.
Here is what I have been able to find out with experimenting
1. Like Dial up, when i open an internet radio station the connection last longer (at one point up to 1.5 hours). But does disconnect still.
2. I did purchase the strongest antenna that 3g store has to offer and, though it did increase my signal, it didn't solve my problem. Oh and the 1.5 hr connection that i had was WITH the antenna so it DID show some improvement.
3. I Also purchased and amplifier and am awaiting for it to arrive so i will see what happens there.
4. WHAT is ec/io??? Can someone please break it down in simple terms and let me know what that is and what i can do to fix/help my connection?
thank you guys for your help |
