I live in a rural area and my desktop is currently on dial-up. On my daughters Palm Treo Pro cell phone with Alltex service, she is able to recieve a steady 3 bar signal. Connected to the internet, Speedtest indicates averaging about 0.35mps down and 0.07mps up. It seems to cruise the net without problem and even runs you-tube video well.
Could I expect my desktop with a um175 on Alltel service to operate about the same level as the phone does? I don't know if the phone is able to process data easier than my desktop. I know it's not great but it is better than my dial-up.

actually, its entirely likely the um175 will provide better service than the phone. its going to depend on signal it receives, but you can always add a high gain antenna to the um175 like one of these:

Alex, Excuse my ignorance but on the indoor Booster Antenna you have listed it for the Verizon UM175. Will it work also on the Alltel UM175? Are they the same thing?

aside from the two devices being different color, they are the same device.

all the antennas we sell for Verizon UM175 work with Alltel UM175

I used to tether my V9m and get speeds like your daughters. Bought a UM 150 in October, and doubled the download speeds. Alltel did an upgrade in my area about two weeks ago, and now I get around 800 to 900 k down, 120 k up. In the mornings it has been running about 2m down 130 up. The um 150 usually has about an 83 dbm
