I emailed Kyocera technical support inquiring about the next firmware release. To my surprise, I was told there would be no more updates.

Considering I just purchased the router as an upgrade to the KR1, I was extremely pi$$ed off. The router has only been out a year. Why would they stop firmware updates? I think I may return the router and get the Cradlepoint. Anyone ever try a PCMCIA to express card adaptor with these routers and wireless cards? Specifically the Verizon 5750?

Email excerpt below:

Thank you for contacting Kyocera-Wireless Technical Support. This email message is in response to your inquiry as to when the next firmware release for the Kyocera KR2 Mobile Router will come out.

We apologize but there will no longer be firmware releases for the KR2 router.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. I e-mailed them in a thread below back on April 21st:

i had no success with the addonics adapter.
you are better off buying a replacement USB modem to use with MBR1000
