|
|
Hi all,
I am using Verizon Mobile Broadband through a UM175 USB modem. For my work, I spend all day on client site (in Manhattan) where I have no network connectivity, and thus my Verizon card is my primary means of network connectivity, and stays connected from 9AM to 7PM M-F, with fairly heavy use (using Microsoft Groove to sync large documents between several users). I've noticed that the card is lightning fast in the morning, but seems to slow down and become unreliable as the day goes on, and by the afternoon, I have to disconnect/reconnect to get a couple of minutes of good service, before it gets painfully slow again. When I look at the Statistics graph, I notice that, even when doing something that should be fairly constant, like downloading a document, the usage chart looks like mountains, with constant peaks and valleys--200k one second, 3k the next, indefinitely.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Might Verizon be throttling me due to the long connection times (9-10 hours a day) and heavy data usage?
I'm in Manhattan, connecting to Rev-A, and using the USB Y cable if this is of any help to anyone.
Thanks for any help! |

As more and more people come to work during the day and start using their Verizon Mobile Broadband on the same cell site as you, y'all have to share the same pipe so everybody goes slower. It's just like the streets - it probably gets harder to get around Manhattan as the day goes on too. _________________ WVBill |

| This was my first thought too, but it works fine until significantly further into the day--I typically start seeing slowdowns around lunch, with it getting worse and worse into the evening. If it were a capacity thing, I'd suspect that it would start happening rapidly around 9AM when folks start filtering into the office. |

Lucent EVDO (almost all of VZW) has no way to thorttle. This is most likly due to congestion, causing the noise floor to rise, or useage.
During buisy times do a speedtest. You should see your DL drop, yet have UL stay the same. If upload is dropping below 500k on RevA, then it has a good chance of being a high noise enviroment. |
