After upgrading SmartView to 2.22, my connection sharing through both ethernet and airport no longer work. Devices on ethernet and wifi receive IP addresses through DHCP, but it looks like packets aren't being forwarded. I will probably run a sniffer as my next step.

Has anyone else seen something like this? I'm not 100% sure it's related to the SmartView upgrade. Internet applications on the Mac doing the sharing work fine.

The new 2.22 driver does indeed block connection sharing.

It is actually a downgrade - it doesn't offer any new features or performance, and instead takes away something I consider vital.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

The way sprint went about doing this was highly unprofessional. The user interface doesn't do anything to let you know it's stopping you from sharing. The sharing icon even appears. This amounts to a rootkit in my opinion.

Mac users be warned.

Actually, SmartView now comes up with an error message for me saying that sharing is prohibited. I've posted a screenshot over on my blog.

I've tried to post the link and / or the image here, but the anti-spam settings here seem to be preventing me from posting either.

So... Check out technomadia dot com for more info.
