|
|
Hi,
I have Sierra 598U modem from sprint and I'm having a problem installing SmartView software. Towards the end of the installation I get this message from InstallShield "The wizard was interrupted before Sprint SmartView could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again".
I tried on 2 machines running Vista (one laptop and one desktop) but it fails on both.
I also read from this forum that someone was able to install the driver manually and add the dial-up connection (#777). I would like to try this option if I can't get SmartView to install but I don't know how. Does anyone know how to install the driver manually?
Thanks,
Glenn |

Glenn,
You would install the 598 as a dial-up modem using #777 as the phone number. Don't enter anything in User or Password fields. Thats all there is to it.
You may want to try downloading SmartView directly from Sprint at www.sprint.com/downloads _________________ evdo-tips.com |

Thanks for the reply. I already tried version 2.22 from sprint.com but it also fails with the same message.
I was able to find the driver installation program on c:\program files\Sierra wireless Inc\Tru-Install\Drivers\DrvInst.exe (which was copied by the SmartView installation program before it failed). I put the modem in and ran that program. That installed the driver successfully. I was able to add dial-up connection for #777 after that. I'm able to connect now. This is great!
Thanks for your help. |

This was working fine until I rebooted the machine. The driver is no longer there (under device manager / modems). I had to reinstall it. Even when I unplug the modem from USB drive and put it in again, I have to reinstall the driver. Any way around this?
Thanks,
Glenn |

I'VE GOT IT WORKING!
OK, after banging my head against the wall all night, I've figured out how to get this working.
Forget the bloated Sprint software. Sierra has a nice, small tool called Watcher. Get it by going to Support home and selecting "Other" instead of Sprint. This will allow you to download Watcher_7.12.msi.
Then, disable the "TRU-Install" feature of the modem. Because, as some of you have found out, because it has no record of an installation succeeding, it keeps trying and breaks any installation you might have got working.
Here's the tool to disable the auto-installation.
It is important to run the DisableSWoC.exe tool only after a connection manager software installation.
I've got this working, I can plug and unplug the modem, the drivers and installed and I can connect via DUN to #777 and it works great! |
