...and what "misleading" plan would that be?

The plan referenced in the article, "Everything Messaging", includes picture messaging. However, picture messaging requires a connection to the internet, which Sprint charges for and is NOT included in the Everything Messaging plan. So if you want to take advantage of the included "unlimited picture messaging", you are forced to connect to the internet and charged per megabyte. Technically Sprint is not lying, you are not charged for the picture message per se, but it is misleading to say that something is included when another feature that incurs a fee is required.... IMHO.

Indeed, I concur. It is another example of "looks good" but is not, when you read the details. Thank you Maureen for staying on top of these plans, and informing us. Great job.

One of the only downsides to the uber-popular Blackberry devices is the lack of an antenna port. If you want to boost your signal, you'll need to use a wireless repeater.

Our latest tip of the week will show you how to find your RSSI, do some testing, and select the right wireless repeater for your Blackberry!

Now that most major carriers impose a 5GB allowance on data usage and charge per-megabyte overage fees if you use more than 5GB of data, it is very important to keep an eye on how much data you're using so that you're not surprised with a big bill at the end of the month! Luckily, Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T make it very easy to monitor your usage so that you can make sure you don't accidentally go over your limit.

One of the biggest bummers about the MiFi is that if you tether it directly to a computer, it disables the WiFi. Luckily, there's a workaround!

How to Use WiFi AND Tether Your Verizon MiFi 2200 at the Same Time

This tip works great with the Verizon MiFi. Unfortunately, the tip doesn't work consistently with the Sprint version of the MiFi. You are welcome to try it - you can always revert back to the default settings - but in our tests it didn't work as well as the Verizon version Sad

The CBA250 is one of the lesser-known "specialty" Cradlepoint routers - it doesn't have WiFi but is great for certain applications. One situation where the CBA250 really shines is when users already have a wireless and/or ethernet network in place but just need a way to connect their mobile broadband card (USB or ExpressCard) - with the CBA250, you can simply connect your card to the CBA250, then connect the CBA250 to your existing "regular" router via Ethernet, and THAT'S IT! No configuration, no fancy settings to worry about!

PostPosted: Thu Sep 17, 2009 4:34 pm    Post subject: Tip #20: Which EVDO Device is Best for Cradlepoint Routers? Reply with quote

Cradlepoint routers have a lot of great features, but the features don't work with ALL modems. If you plan to use your Sprint or Verizon device with a Cradlepoint router, you'll want to check to see that it is BRAG(Bars, RSSI, Activation, GPS)-compatible.

Not to "BRAG", but this tip is great! (pun 100% intended)

If you've made any changes to your Cradlepoint (or Kyocera KR2) router settings - security, passwords, etc - it is HIGHLY recommended that you save a copy of your configuration file so that you can re-upload it back to the router if you ever have to restore your factory defaults or otherwise lose your settings. This can also be a big time-saver for folks or companies who need to set a large quantity of routers to all have the same settings - just save it once and upload it to all the routers!

PostPosted: Thu Oct 01, 2009 5:56 pm    Post subject: Tip #22: Home Networking with your MiFi Reply with quote

Did you know that you can create a home network with your MiFi that will allow you to share files between the computers connected, remotely access other computers on the network, do network gaming, or share network printers - just like you would with a "regular" router?

You can, and it's easy! You'll just need to make a quick change to the MiFi's settings and then set up the computers that will be sharing the network, and you'll be all set. This week's tip will walk you through the setup for Mac OSX, Windows Vista, and Windows XP computers.

Ditto to the other poster - they not only do it by default - it is simple - NO need for a Tip Of the Week on that needed with a CradlePoint.
