| I was grandfathered in to the Unlimited data plan with my PX-500 and also was receiving a monthly discount on my plan. I purchased a new laptop which required a new card so I purchased it outright and called Sprint to swap the ESN. I was told my PLAN would not be changed. My online account now says that I have a 5gig limit AND my monthly charge has increased. How can Sprint do this? I am going to call them but just thought I'd check here first. |

This has personally happened to my account with Sprint at least 4 times in the last 16 months. We used to call Sprint to do an ESN swap and they would do an early termination of the previous line (charge $175) and then start a new 2 year contract. All we did was call for an ESN swap. After calling and complaining they would revert everything to the way it was and remove the fees.
Every since Sprint added ESN swaps to their online tool - it is easy to do an ESN swap without Sprint screwing it up.
So, call Sprint and tell them you only requested an ESN change and the operator messed it up and you want it reverted and all should be fine. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| I just bought a laptop with a PCMCIA slot and kept my Pantech card. It was not an easy task either. but apparently, the Latitude line from Dell still has the old pc card slot. |

Funny that I'm seeing this topic when just this morning I saw an offer for Cricket Wireless CDMA 3G Unlimited at $40/Mo. with no contract.
My Sprint contract has another year at $60/Mo. grandfathered unlimited but when it's time I may move on even though a carrier like Cricket has limited regional coverage within only some US major metropolitan areas.

Along with getting bumped out of Unlimited at renewal time, the fact that Tucson has never had Up/Dn speeds commensurate with reports from other areas of the country has me looking at other options next year. |

I am also on the grandfathered Sprint data plan, which I have had for a while now. I also just recently got Cricket service to use as a supplement to my Sprint modem, that way I don't always have to pull my Sprint modem out of my MBR1000 when I want to use it on the go in my PHS300.
Let me just mention a few things about Cricket...yes, it is a great price and the no-contract service is nice. When they say unlimited, they are not telling you that the speed gets throttled after you hit 5GB. So you can always use it, it just gets slower. And even before the speed cap, my average speeds are about 40% slower than what I get with Sprint. Almost reminds me of EVDO before there was Rev. A, and the capped speeds are like the old Sprint Vision service. I knew this going in, so it's no big deal, and I mainly use it for streaming music in the car, so for that it works great. Plus, I use it in tandem with the Sprint modem at home.
As for you getting bumped from your unlimited status, as long as you just keep going month-to-month without renewing your contract, you should be able to keep the same plan. This is what I intend on doing until WiMax comes to my area, there is no way I am dropping my Sprint data plan. Considering how far I go over the 5GB threshhold every month, it is a bargain. |
