Hello everyone ,

I'm wanting to know what else I can do to tweak the system and get a better signal , here is what Im currently running

I have a xp system , sp2, an hyperlink 900mhz antenna and wilson 3 watt amp connected with 25' lmr 400 and a lighting arrestor in line , speeds don't change with arrestor or not , antenna is about 6 ft above the roof line on the 3rd story of my house

I live on a very fringe area of 3g , nlos to tower about 7 miles , very hilly and tress , after doing a 360 and tuning the antenna I can get a 87 rssi , -5 to -6 ec/lo(db) and my speeds are 600-8ookbps with about a 160 ping time , EXCEPT yesterday evening ( sunday ) after about 6pm my speeds went down to 150 - 300 kbps until about 11oopm , this morning back up to 800 kbps

what can i do to improve the signal?? , driving close to the tower without an antenna i can get 1000-1300 kbps

any suggestions , thanks in advance for all the post here that have helped me get this far

Since you have already "tuned" the antenna the likely reason for the drop in speed during that time period is tower traffic load. A couple of tweaks you can try are Home Agent changes (if your modem / connection manager supports it) and RWIN optimizing of the TCP/IP setting in Windows XP (not Vista). For that you can use Tweak Test and DrTcp. I have links for both in my article at http://evdotips.blogspot.com/2008/03/restoring-windows-tcp-settings.html

Are Home Agent settings still making a difference?? And is there any way to access the settings in the mobile routers?? (MBR1000)

They make a difference with my setup (Franklin CDU-680). HA changes cannot be made with a router, but the Cradlepoints will show the current setting.

I would say that you've already got a very nice setup with the parabolic and the LMR400. Anything in the 80s for signal strength is good. I would try experimenting with home agent settings. Otherwise you may just be stuck with a tower that occasionally gets bogged down.

BTW, home agent settings are only for sprint and since you said you have a 900mhz antenna that would seems to preclude you having Sprint service.
