I currently own the PX-500 and use on laptop (connection is descent). I've been wanting to improve my internet connection but am not able to qualify for internet cable services or land-line broadband providers in my area (and I"m not about to spend a fortune on satellite internet). I'm deciding on whether or not to get the wrt54g3g-st router as I know it will create wi-fi access for multiple computers, but wondering if it will improve my internet connection at all. If not, are there routers out there compatible with px-500 that will? Thanks...

It sounds like the basis of your question is whether using a router ensures better performance from your PX-500.
The simple answer to that question is "no". Using your modem in a router rather than directly in your computer will not have an impact on the speeds that your modem can provide - it's purpose is to allow you to share the connection with multiple computers. In some cases, using a router DOES improve the performance, because you can place the modem/router in a location that has better signal strength (for example, some people find that they get great signal in one corner of their house and put the router there), but the router doesn't do anything to effect the connection.
If you're hoping to boost your signal strength, you might want to consider an antenna or amplifier. Check out this article: http://3gstore.com/rssi, which will guide you in determining whether an antenna will be effective for you. |
