I'm wondering if the jitter and packet loss that I'm getting is normal for EVDO? I've tested in a few locations using http://myvoipspeed.visualware.com/index.html and my jitter is sitting at ~205ms, while packet loss is between 5-9%.

I'm using a KR2 with a Sierra Wireless AC595 EVDO card with a (3G Store Wilson) amp and an omni. Great modem signal, great WLAN signal.

Tomorrow, I'll take the KR2 out of the equation and test the card in another machine. But for the moment....seems just a tad excessive to me.......hhmmm.

I'm stumped.

I was stumped last night. Now I'm REALLY stumped.

I tested the same AC595 card in another machine today, and got:

Jitter of 29ms
Packet Loss of 0.3%

Much better performance obviously.

I returned the 595 to the KR2, held the KR2 button to set to defaults, waited til it booted, then ran the same line quality test.

Jitter around 200ms again
Packet Loss of 3-9%

Is anyone else having this issue?? Sad

I have a 595U and KR2 setup. I ran the test you just tried and got the following results.

Jitter 12.5ms
Packet Loss 0.0%
MOS Score 3.9

If your using this for a fixed install ditch the Omni directional and pick up a Parabolic Grid. They are far superior for directional applications and if your getting packet loss that means your signal is inconsistent.

I don't do VOIP but I do use my Bluetooth Headset over my PS3 while gaming. For the most part I can hear everyone just fine.

Thanks for running the test!!

It's weird, I'm using it for a mobile install, so I have to have an omni. BUT, I've tried it with just the 595 card (no antenna), the 595 with vehicle mount omni, and 595 with amp and omni. Still get pretty much the same test scrores.

When I test using a USB modem (AT&T), the jitter and packet loss come wayyy down. hhmmmm..

expert007,

I found your post while doing a search for the same problem I have. Have the same setup as you (KR2 w/ 595) and get very similar results - very high jitter and moderate loss with the 595 installed on the KR2, but much lower numbers when it's installed in the notebook.

Did you ever figure out the reason for the high jitter on the KR2?

Thanks.

No, I still haven't figured it out, though I haven't been using the KR2 as much as I was initially. Still have the exact same issue though. I just bought a MBR1000, so I'm going to see if the problem exists on both boxes.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with their results too.

I'll be interested to know if the problem persists on your MBR1000.

For now I'll switch the card to my laptop when I need to voip. Not the best solution, but it works for now.

Thanks for your reply.
