|
|
After several attempts in getting the new AT&T BlackBerry Bold to tether to any of the CradlePoint family of routers, we have yet been able to find a case where a customer has any success with this combination.
We would like to hear from the BlackBerry Bold users who may have had better luck when tethering to their CradlePoint routers. If you would like to participate in our development research, please post a reply with the following Information.
Cradle Point Router Model:
Firmware Version you are running:
Provider your BlackBerry Bold is operating on (Most Likely AT&T):
Operating System:
Model of Desktop or Laptop used:
Please describe what you have or have not been able to perform and if there is any odd behavior like LED's that are lit when connecting my BlackBerry, etc..
We hope to use the information to help CradlePoint with the development of new firmware that WILL support this gem of a BlackBerry;-) _________________ - Victor |

I've really been wanting to get a cellular router for sometime. I even called tech support at various places to see if an AT&T Blackberry Bold would work. All the techs I spoke to said it was not supported. So since I also have several other cellular modem cards e.g. a Sierra Wireless 881U and 860 as well as a few others I decided to bite the bullet and even if my BB did not work then I would have some sort of fail-safe.
I went to BestBuy looking to purchase a Cradlepoint router, admittedly I was looking for a Cradlepoint that was less costly than the MBR1000 but that was all they had at the store and I decided to buy it anyway; besides I liked the fact that it was 802.11N rather than 802.11G and the fact that it had several physical network ports rather than one or none made it worth the extra cost.
I got the MBR1000 home, unboxed it jacked in my BB, did the minimum configuration which basically consisted of changing the password. I did not make any changes or additions to the APN string or make or change any other device or carrier settings of any sort.
The BB shows the Modem Connected notification and I am up and surfing. This posting has been added over my BB connection on the MBR1000.
As a Mac user this was an excellent alternative for me as tethering a BlackBerry via Bluetooth has been troublesome at best and my previous experiences with tethering on a Mac has resulted in a very unreliable connection with the Bold which would last anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours typically resulting in several connection drops and hiccups along the way, my 8800 and 8310 did not have this problem but they were not 3G devices.
I am by day an IT Manager - BES / Messaging & Collaboration Architect and my BB configuration is as follows:
AT&T BlackBerry Bold with Unlimited (5GB) Tethering Plan
BES attached, Security Profile has been set to the default unrestricted setting, I will be adjusting this over the weekend to see when and if this breaks the connection to the Cradlepoint MBR1000.
*YMMV but this has been my experience thus far. |

| Use isp.cingular as the apn in both the modem settings and in the wan settings. you need to use CINGULAR1 as the password - leave the username and all other fields blank. |

I am currently stressing out over internet issues at my new home in the middle of NOwhere in TX. I had to get rid of my unlimited Sprint aircard to get the ATT aircard at a 5 gig cap. upset me, ANYWAYS... I got the MBR1000 for me and my dad......... It will work with just about anything Including my Blackberry bold tethered to it. Bottom line is YOU HAVE TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE.
The current 1.5.1 accepts so many different items.
What I am looking for though is a router that is a bit cheaper and will accept the blackberry bold. |
