|
|
I've read, and read, and read more for an anser to this one.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 with a Novatel 5720 imbed card (aka e725)
I have a Wilson SignalBoostDT Which does wonders for my bars - heres my issue:
The Crap™ connection manager that comes with a Dell computer doesn't have an option to force EVDO. I assume that since the booster is dual band, the 1xRTT and EVDO bands are boosted, and it seems the 1x is winning in signal strength as that is the type I wind up having. Unplug the booster, I get EVDO in 1/2 hour duration increments at best; so I know it's out here in my nect of the woods.
I need to kmnow if anyone knows a way to manually force EVDO, either through registry, 3rd party programs, guns, sharp sticks, etc.
Also, I've heard the real VZAccess program can do it, but I can't get the bugger to install and see my card on my system.
Thanks. |

Have you tried bypassing the connection manager entirely via network connections? If so, do you get the same results? _________________ evdo-tips.com |

Yes, and I get the same results - faster connection for a short while, then it bumps back to 1xR, only way out of that is to completely reset the connection. |

Some folks have had success by doing a PRL update. If you are comfortable with CDMA AT commands there is a section devoted entirely to Verizon. You can read a PDF available on my blog here: http://evdotips.blogspot.com/2008/11/at-command-set.html _________________ evdo-tips.com |

Jim,
All of the AT commands listed in the document return an error when I talk to the modem. Other basic commands work just fine, and I know I am entering the AT commands correctly (remember this from back in my BBS days).
Is there a specific set of AT commands for Novatel wireless products that you know of?
I've been on the phone with Dell, and after spending an hour trying to understand the person speaking on the other end of the phone, they determined it was 'working as intended.'
I had similar results with Verizon in about 1/3rd the time.
Somewhere, a software or communications geek knows the answer to this. |
