I find that my Sprint PX-500 gets a strong EVDO signal when in my laptop and download speeds of 600Kb. When I put the card in the Linksys WRT54G3G router, it only gets a 1X signal and 90-100kb downloads.
I'm using an external antenna and its location is not changing, all that is different is whether the card is in the router or in the laptop.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

I should add that this is the original Linksys WRT54G3G-ST, not the V2 version. Also I'm running the 2.01.12 Linksys firmware.
Thanks

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your reply. Do you recommend the KR-2 or one of the cradlepoint routers? With the KR2, I can keep our current PX-500 or is the PX part of the problem? Ok the KR2 is a cradlepoint product but I wasn;t sure if Kyocera was supporting it well.
I also have a retired Moto Q that I could use though its EVDO Rev 0 but I'm not sure if that makes sense on the Sprint plans.
Thank you,

lack of support is exactly the reason i never recommend the KR2. the kr2 is based on the MBR1000 which has already had TWO firmware releases since kr2's last firmware release (five months ago). who knows when they will decide to release later firmware??
combine that with our opinion that PCMCIA is a dying breed that limits the computers you can use -- and you should be able to understand why i suggested what i did. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |

Alex,
Thank you for your advice. I just ordered the MBR1000 from the 3GStore. An extra advantage is if this problem turns out to be Sprint, we can relatively easily change to another provider. I was also planning to move to 802.11N via a separate router and this solves that issue as well. |

you're most welcome. thanks for choosing 3gstore... after you get the ESN swapped to U720 and do speedtests comparing laptop to MBR1000, if you do not find the satisfaction you expect, make sure you call 3gstore's tech support for assistance in troubleshooting. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |

I just finished setting up the MBR1000. It does take a few more steps than the Linksys, but the performance is far better. I'm now getting EVDO Rev A where before I either had Rev 0 or 1X. Downloads are faster, uploads are much faster.
Its much more configurable too and the auto-update feature was nice.
Thanks for pointing this product out to me.
Btw, does anyone want a used PX-500 (great card) or a Linksys WRT54G3G-ST? The Linksys did work well for me when I was closer to the tower but I wouldn't bother if your signal is not very strong. |

I'm living in an area where that router would be so suitable for me. Standard internet cable and land-line broadband aren't available here, and certainly will not consider satellite from horror stories I've heard. Please email me or reply here if you still have that router and for how much you're willing to sell for. I do have the px500 card already and have been examining my options for quite some time now. Thanks!
