I am using a Franklin EVDO CDU550 USB card and Alltel wireless service for my home internet. Up until a month or so ago my service was OK, I never got dropped but now I'm having problems. I can connect with no problem, with 100% signal, I'm able to surf the internet sometimes for a minute - sometimes longer then my screen will lock up & then eventually say its unable to contact the server. My card still has green lights flashing like it is connected.... I disconnect & it goes through all the normal motions but when it is disconnects it shows 0% signal and tells me that the card isn't inserted. Immediately the card repowers itself, without re-booting or disconnecting it from the computer. What is going on?
Also, I was always able to get the DO coverage - now sometimes it shows nothing but still 100% signal strength & the internet is really really slow.

I noticed the same thing this week. I would get dropped every now and then, but it happens much more frequently now at times. I'm using a Kyocera kpc680 card in a KR2 router on Alltel. After blaming it on their Quicklink software, they then decided it was a hardare problem. (I'm surpised they didn't first try to blame it on the router, which I purchased elswhere.) They said I need to take the card back and trade it in on a new one, but all the Alltel dealers around here don't have anymore kpc680's.

The problem is so intermittent, I think it is on their end.

Thats amusing, Alltel took my Franklin card & swapped it out for a KPC680. My guess is it has been used before, nice of them......
I haven't had the same issues since getting this card, but service has still dropped off - sometimes I can only get RTT coverage instead of EVDO.
My thoughts are that now more people are on wireless, I'm getting bumped by people with a better signal.
How does that work?

THe KPC680 seems to be a good card, and also supports the really high speed EVDO Rev A format. I get a really good EVDO signal to the tower. But, I appear to be getting bumped off at what I would consider to be high internet traffic times of the day. Interestingly enough, during this weekend, I was able to stay on for hours at a time. Of course, this morning (Monday) I started getting bumped off every hour to half-hour or so.

Has anyone else found an answer to Alltel dropping service? I now seem to have this problem. Not sure if it is Alltel or my router (Dlink Dir-450). I have noticed that after a while I will try to log into my router and it just goes back to the login screen. Then if I reboot my router it will allow me to login. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Lately un plugging it and putting it back in hasn't worked so throwing it across the room has!!!Maybe a day before it try's it again!!! Laughing Must scare the gremlins all the way out of it!!! Your particular problem sounds like a connection to your router.

Well, to continue my ongoing saga, I swapped out my KPC680 card with another one a couple weeks ago to satisfy Alltel that it wasn't the card. So, now they are finally doing their job and looking for problems on their end. They must be doing something, because the past few days, I've had much fewer disconnects.

Morning to all EVDO users Very Happy

My wife and I called Alltel tech support yesterday after our USB UMD175 card has been giving us issues for a couple of weeks. I was thinking that the card itself was having issues as we have a Cradlepoint MBR-1000 that stopped working which we are patiently waiting for it to return from Cradlepoint. The tech support lady from Alltel gave us a trouble ticket and stated that our connection was getting locked between two towers, one in Kalamazoo, MI and Kentwood, IL (we live in Hastings, MI which is about 35 miles from Kalamazoo, MI and over 100+ miles to Kentwood, IL). The crazy thing is that we have a tower within 2 miles from our house, which is why we went with Alltel in the first place. My dBm averages -95 and I'm on PRL 40038 (which I'll be searching here on the forums on how to update the PRL later today - this is my first post here in the forums and haven't read much yet). The lady on the phone stated that they weren't showing any type of tower issues here in Michigan, she had taken a screenshot of the area, our info, and that Engineering would have to evaluate the problem which could take another 5 business days before being notified if there would be a next step (as in RMA the darn device) - and that we would have to wait for them to call us or call back after 5 business days. This was after trying to have the device replaced at an Alltel national store in Grand Rapids, MI the day before and being told that we had to open a ticket with tech support before they could even help us - boy did I think this was not the best "customer service" - but working in the technical field I know that most companies have "processes" that have to be followed.

My connection was constantly going from 1RXTT, EVDO, EVDO-A and having a latency over 1200ms - this morning I reconnect just to see if the EVDO gods were at work and I'm back to enjoying my connectivity

For me, I'm just glad to have my connectivity back.. now I'm just waiting for my Cradlepoint router to return.
