I just got an evdo phone to work, have a cabin in a rural area on the west coast of florida where they now have some new towers. Alltel. Got a Samsung Hue 11 from alltel. I had a simple yet maddening problem.
On a netbook, running xp, the operator assisted dailup box was checked as default in the advanced menu in network connections. This killed the alltel access software auto setup. Took a day to figure it out. Wireless worked, everything else. If this box is checked the access software will ask you do hand dial in the access number. Then it will fail. If you run the wizard, you will get this phone is not supported. This is not true, the drivers work, software works, its a new update of the old Hue. In a new laptop or one that was using a dialup modem, you must un check the operator assisted box or you will not be able to use the access software.
The phone is ok, good signal, I am near a tower, so I cannot test it on the road, but I will. Speeds, I use g and b regularly, and I am not unhappy with these speeds. I used dialup on the west coast of Florida, and it was so bad, it made you cry. This is a great system for me when I travel to the rural coast. |
