I hate to say it, but McAfee is crap about causing incompatibility issues. It just seems odd that the timing is RIGHT after she installed an update.

Does the modem work when McAfee is completely shut down? Have you tried booting the computer into Safe Mode with Networking (ie. barebones startup) and tried it then?

Just some thoughts...it's always a process of elimination kind of thing.

I haven't tried that. Problem is I live two hours away from my mom and I think I'd have better luck putting the dog on the phone and explaining it to him than I would to my mom so I haven't had a ton of time to sit down with it myself.

I know this hasn't been posted in a long while. but im recently having the same problems with my um175 and my 64 bit vista system. My question is if I just get a wireless router, like a cradlepoint. then couldn't I just plug the modem into that and have my computer access the wireless access point (because that works fine on my PC) wouldn't that solve my problem, and if so what router should I get?

you are correct, and any http://3gstore.com/cradlepoint will work

this router selection guide will help you pick among the models: http://3gstore.com/whichrouter

for most home/office use, we recommend the MBR1000 because its WiFi N radio provides the most range to/from the router and it has four ethernet ports for things with no WiFi at all.

you might find an MBR1000 at a bestbuy for $250, but these are not routers those guys are likely to understand/support very well.

you'll probably save money getting it from 3gstore.com, and more importantly you'll have superior customer and tech support from people who USE this equipment on a daily basis.

order anytime between now and 3pm central time on monday, and it will leave us monday. how fast you get it depends on what state you are, and how much you choose to pay for shipping.
