Alright...there is a slightly long story but it does have a point.

A few days ago I went to connect with my USB 270 modem as usual and the VZaccess told me it was updating my device. It failed and would not let me on. I decided to leave it and try again in the morning. The next morning it went though without any problems but then the signal was low and the speed was like being on dial up. Then it keep disconnecting me on its own or goes to dormant and doesn't respond to anything I do to get it moving again. Now it takes two or three times to connect since a QA13 (I think...I do not have it in front of me) keeps showing up but then it connects with no problem. I decided to try it in different areas of my house and at my college and it isn't working there either. I use Vista if that helps to understand the situation ( I don’t think it has anything to do with Vista though).

I was hoping someone would shed some light on this issue or give me some advice on how to get the right kind of help. I have a funny feeling I have to replace my USB 270 again but I might be over thinking the situation.

Thank you everyone in advance for their help!
(Sorry if the computer jargon there is not technical I am just new to all of this)

Are you sure you don't have a USB720? Also can you please provide us with your RSSI number You can see the following article on how to get the RSSI

I would also recommend you open up VZACCESS Manager and go to OPTIONS>ACTIVATION.

Whoops...I meant 720 but my fingers were thinking otherwise that day. My RSSI is -92 which I gather isn't good.

My Verizon USB 720 is always going dormant also. Is there anything I can buy or download to make it stop doing this? Verizon replaced my old one, but the new one isn't any better. I happen to be in a dead zone here at my house, which is only 30 minutes from downtown Memphis, which is part of the problem. But I've had the dormancy issue even when using my computer in town. Is there an antenna or something I can install at the house to help me get a better signal for my phone?

I am having a similar problem. It's also a USB720. I try to connect and this happens:

i43.tinypic.com/dfag6x.jpg - Please wait while updating you device
i41.tinypic.com/30tnu3b.jpg - Another attempt to update your device will being in __ seconds
i42.tinypic.com/1zqac1f.jpg - Please wait while updating you device 2/2

It then connects for a second, goes dormant, then disconnects. I try to activate it and it says "Activation failed". Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Pretty much same thing with my USB720. It resided in the MBR1000 for a few months and decided to use it in the laptop. The 720 went thru 2 self configurations then would not connect either stand alone or in the router. I had to leave for work and 12 hours later I was on the phone with Verizon. They had me delete the modem which did not fix the problem. The next step was to delete the Verizon software which initially did not fix the problem. While I was talking with her I flipped open the antenna door and the 720 connected (weird). Ever since then the signal and rssi are all over the place. I have had a low of 70 and a high of 105 with frequent disconnects with the 720 either in the laptop or the router. Before that fateful morning there were no issues with the device. Did the Verizon configuration cause this ?. If it did not I do not understand how it worked fine before but not after.

Today was experiment day. I walked around the house with the laptop and 720 using the verizon software. Best signal was outside at the northeast corner. I took the router and 720 outside and plugged it in. Went back inside and connected, brought up the modem thru the router which showed 78 RSSI and 60% signal most of the time. It would go to 93 RSSI sometimes but generally hung around 78. Does this indicate an antenna in my future?. The computer is considerably faster with the 78. I do not think the router wants to stay outside for very long and besides that it is 110 degrees out there.
