Thanks. I tried with additional EX720's when I got to the office and got the same result.
I did buy the routers from 3GStore, so I'll give you a call later. They were purchased at the same time (right after the CDR500 was released), so that is why I was wondering about multiple hardware revisions. I appreciate the help.

I tried with a Sierra 597E and got the same results. I'll call in to support.

Believe it or not, the problem was the firmware revision. The two routers were on an older firmware revision (probably one of the betas). I flashed one with 1.4.2 and I am writing this message via the CTR500 with both an ExpressCard and USB modem connected and load balanced.
I honestly didn't think that would resolve it, but I figured I'd try it while on hold with tech support.
So, you may want to just let your support people know about it and make sure that anyone with battery problems tries upgrading firmware.

Even if the USB port supports more than 250mw, I'm curious if it provides nearly enough power to power a Cradlepoint router. The USB port on my MP3450 can't even charge my iPhone! Do you actually power a Cradlepoint router this way?

Yes. I do power CradlePoint routers with the 3450. Specifically, the PSH and and CTR350's do very well.
I power a lot of stuff off the USB port on my 3450's. Even pairs of the 500gb notebook hard drives we back up with
I took a quick unofficial look at the IPhone charging specs on a few webpages. Looks like it uses 3.7 volt battery, and there are a variety of chargers that put out a lot less than the 3450's USB port (including a few little solar chargers). I would think it should charge just fine from a 3450.
You might want check the cabling, connectors, and of course, the 3450.
If you have problems with the 3450, I can say that Tekkeon support is about as good as it gets, and almost on par with 3G store.
I suppose it is worth noting that all USB power is not equal. IIRC (and I reserve the right to be wrong), a spec for an operating and connected device exists, whereby it can power up and request differeing amounts of power, and also, some sort of power spec exists for devices that simply want to charge (for example). Perhaps the platypie (plural for platypus?) that designed the iPhone put some something in there the 3450 does not like.
if I understand the spec sheet listed at the Tekkeon web site, it shows the 3450's USB port as compatiable with the iPhone, so I would really take a look at the connections, and also test the 3450.
