I have just set up a EVDO wireless broadband usb card through alltel through my laptop. I have a couple of issues. First off I tried a new usb modem, for the first one they gave me had a problem with disconecting but had a much higher upload speed than my current one. The old one (starcom um175) had a down of 600 k and up of 500k. The new one (Huawei ec168) has a better signal but somehow gets 800 down and only 100 up It runs ok on the laptop and pulls up pages really quick. How is this possible. Any solutions to get a better up? Anybody have this setup please let me know, your fix.
The other issue is my router I got in to run this type of connection. Its from * and is really hard to set up. I am wondering if anyone has used this setup and if its worth the 200 dollars. Is this any better than bridging my laptop directly to the xbox. I have accomplished the bridge and it seems to run average but I worry that this will hurt my already week speeds? Will the router help this issue or not? And yes I know its not ideal in the eyes of you guys who can get dsl or cable but its all I can get. Any constructive tips would be appreciated. Anybody gaming on alltel if so whats your speeds and how well is it running on halo or other similar games. thanks

How do you have your router setup? Are you running it wirelessly to xbox or are you using an ethernet cable? What kind of router do you have?

Can you let us know which router you have? We won't be able to help without that information. Do you know if your modem is supported by the router you have?

What kind of performance are you getting with your Alltel modem plugged directly into your computer? I recommend running a speed test at speedtest.net and also reading the article about signal strength here: http://evdoinfo.com/RSSI

tp0202, you say you have the Euawai ec 168 and have successfully used it to connect to your Xbox? Could you please let me know how, because I have a similar set up and have had no luck and no one else seems to know how to tell me to do it. I have a Dell Laptop, the Euawai, my internet is through Alltell, and my 360 is connected directly to the lap via a crossover ethernet cat5e cable. What am I doing wrong?

Please Help

The Biscuit

"none of the routers 3gstore sells work with the ec168" I would recommend ec228 or um175

To get the net from EVDO modem to other devices. Plug the modem in ,go to Network Connections, right click on "Alltell Wireless Internet", click properties, click on advanced tab, and select the check box "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's network connection", select the LAN port to feed and voila! The pc with the modem attached has effectively become a makeshift router. Just plug in the LAN cord to your xbox.

I have a pc running to a Belkin wireless router with my PC, my PSP, my little bro's PC, and his Xbox360 all working together. Gotta love Google, how else would I have become an narcissistic computer freak!? Shocked
