Hello: I have my two ctr-350 setup to work in WDS mode. Everything on the Lan side works the way it should. However, I cannot get to the computer that is hooked to the ctr-350 that is acting as the Repeater.
This is my setup.
1 ctr-350 setup as the Access Point this is the router that is hooked up to the Internet. I have one computer that is hooked to this router, I am able to log into this computer from anywhere I have an Internet connection.
2nd router setup as Repeater.
I have one computer hooked up to this router, I can access either computer from the lan side and I can get on the Internet from either computer.
My problem is I need to be able to access the computer that is hooked up to the repeater from the Internet.
Any Advise? _________________ David M. Camp |

Here is some settings to double check.
WDS set up:
1) Routers must both have WDS enabled
2) Routers must share each other’s MAC addresses in the WDS setup sections
3) The routers must be on the same channel. Use the manual channel settings and if possible the channel with the least interference.
4.) Disable the DHCP for the router not using a modem (the client).
5.) Change the client router’s IP from 192.168.0.1 to some other address so that the routers are not sharing the same address. (i.e 192.168.6.1)
6.) Disable the Require login on both routers. |

I have checked and double checked I believe I have everything setup correctly. The problem is: the router that is the repeater will not allow incoming traffic. It will allow out going and I really do understand routers. So I feel that either it will not work or something else needs to be setup so that both router (access point and client) will allow incoming traffic.
I want to thank all that have any ideas. _________________ David M. Camp |

When you state "incoming" traffic, can you clarify a bit. Do you mean you are trying to access a machine on your client router network from the internet? Meaning coming from the internet through both the Host router, and then through the client router? Just a bit confused as to the specific problem.
I guess the first thing I would double check is the IP address of the machine connected to the Client router. This should be in the subnet of the Host router, as the client router has DHCP disabled.
Do you know what version of Firmware you are running on both routers?
Something else that may help in figuring out the problem would be to list the settings you made on both routers for WDS to function. |

Yes, I want to access a computer that is on the client side router from the internet. I can access the computer that is attached to the router that has the internet connection.
Here are my settings:
Internet router (The main access point)
Router IP=192.168.0.1
DCHP is truned on
IP pool is from 192.168.0.100 to 199
DCHP address reserve for 192.168.0.101
DCHP address reserve for 192.168.0.110 (Computer on Client side)
port forward 81 to 192.168.0.101 (This is the port I come in on to access the computer that is attached to this router.)
port forward 82 to 192.168.0.110 (this is the port I come in on to access the computer that is attached to this router.
WDS has been enabled and I have the MAC address of the client router programmed here.
Second router:
Router IP =192.168.0.5
DCHP is truned OFF (main router assigns all IP's)
WDS has been enabled and I have the MAC address of the Main Router programmed here.
In the main router I have 192.168.0.5 (Client Router) set as DMZ.
Now like I said. On the LAN side everything works.
From the Internet I can access the computer that is attached to the main router but cannot access the computer that is attached to the client.
Any Ideas? _________________ David M. Camp |

I believe I understand now.
I believe that changing the IP address on the Client router to 192.168.5.1 will fix the problem, you can find that setting in the Basic -> Lan page. You should not have to put this IP in the DMZ, I don't think it will hurt if you do however.
You should not have to change any settings on your Host router, and the machine connected to the Client should still get 192.168.0.110. So the port forwarding should work. |

First I want to thank so much for your help. That is exactly what CradlePoint told me to try. I still can not access from the Internet the computer that is attached to the client router. Also, once I changed the client routers IP to 192.168.5.1 I could not longer access the internet from the computer attached to it.
Even though this does not work can you explain to me why changing the third octlet should make a difference.
Thanks again. _________________ David M. Camp |

Hello David,
Well let me first give you my setup.
I have a CTR-350 and a PHS-300. The PHS is the Host router as it has the Sprint Modem connected. The CTR-350 is the client router which has my FTP machine connected to it. Although, I don't have two CTR-350's I doubt that should make a difference as these two routers are very very similar.
Host router
IP address of 192.168.10.1
Wireless Channel is 11
User Login is Unchecked
DHCP reservation for my ftp machine is 192.168.10.110
WDS turned on and the Client routers MAC is listed
Virtual server is setup for FTP to 192.168.10.110
Dynamic DNS is setup so that if the IP of the modem changes I can still get to it via a DNS name
Client router
IP address of 192.168.0.1
Wireless Channel is 11
User Login is Unchecked
DHCP is turned off
WDS turned on and the HOST routers MAC is listed
With this setup I am able to get to my FTP machine which is on the Client router (CTR-350) from the internet. I can also access the internet from my FTP machine without a problem.
I believe this is what you are trying to accomplish other then it may not be FTP you are trying to use. What are you trying to access, ie. HTTP, FTP, or something else? But to answer your question the reason I believe that you need to change the 3rd octet in the IP address is so that both routers are in different subnets. The reason is that these units are routers and they need to know how to route packets between them. If they are both on the same subnet then it would not know how exactly. I can see that it may work when both are in the same subnet, but I have never done it that way. I would think that if you setup your routers in the same manner, but changing the virtual server.
If you want to tell me what application you are trying to access from the internet on the machine connected to the client then I may be able to try it as well. If I have that ability of course. Also, what Firmware version are you using on your CTR's? |

This is what I have.
2 - CTR-350 Router both with version 2.2.1 firmware(The Latest)
Primary Router:
IP = 192.168.10.1
Wireless Channel=11
All Security turned OFF
DHCP turned ON
DHCP reservation for 192.168.10.138 (This is on the primary)
DHCP reservation for 192.168.10.145 (this is on the client)
WDS turned on
MAC address of the Client programmed here.
Virtual server setup to forward port 81 to 192.168.10.138 (This is on primary)
Virtual server setup to forward port 82 to 192.168.10.145 (This is on Client)
Client Router:
IP=192.168.0.1
Wireless Channel=11
DHCP turned OFF
All security turned OFF
WDS turned ON
MAC Address of primary programmed here.
I can access the internet from either Router, and I can login from the internet to 75.207.234.57:81 (Public IP + Port #) this does take me to the computer on the primary router.
However if I try to access the computer on the Client Router (75.207.234.57:82)(Public IP + Port #) I can not. It will always come page not found.

| Just too make sure. Have you connected the client computer (192.168.10.145) to the Primary router and can you then get to (75.207.234.57:82)? Seems to me you said you could, but I thought I would ask. Would not hurt to verify either I suppose as you changed the 3rd octet in the IP address. What are you trying to do on those port numbers. Maybe I can set it up here and give it a try. |

Yes, I have switched computers around and they both work on the Primary.
I run a Camera base web server on each computer. By logging into either computer I can view the cameras I need to see.
I want to thank you again for all your help, if you have anymore ideas please let me know. _________________ David M. Camp |

I want to say thank you again. You have been great help!! I finally got it to work!!. I am so sorry, but I kept missing (Require User Login) under the BASIC (Wireless Wi-Fi) setup!! Once I turned that off it all worked. Please forgive me.
Thanks Again. _________________ David M. Camp |

David,
No worries... Glad to here that you have it working. No need to thank me it was my pleasure to help, and definitely no need to apologize. But I do appreciate the thanks.
On a side note I see there is now a 2.3 firmware version available. However, I am a firm believer in if it's not broken don't fix it, but I will let you make the decision whether to upgrade or not.
Regards, |
