|

After a bit of annoyance I finally got the VZAccess Manager working with my card... How did I do this do you ask? Well, let me tell you...
First... -DO NOT ACCEPT THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE IT OFFERS YOU!!!-
1. UNINSTALL the Dell Utility
2. Go to http://www.vzam.net/download/download.aspx
3. Use these options: Your OS, PC Card/etc, NOV V740 and grab that version
4. After it installs, reboot/etc
5. Go to your device manager, choose your Dell card in the ports under the Modem manually change it to "Novatel Wireless Expedite EV-DO Modem and under Ports, change the Application port to: Novatel Wireless Application Port
6. Start the VZAccess client... You should now see 'the network' and be able to connect.
Any questions/problems? Just holler. |

How are you able to alter strings in the Windows device manager? I have installed the software, but cannot make the recommended changes in device manager. FYI, this is using a Dell VZW 5700 mini-pci card in a Dell mini 9 with windows 7 beta.
Thanks!

I have the same issue, but with the e725 card; I don't see any place in your instructions where I can actually change anything in device manager on ANY tab (except COM port.

"Novatel Wireless Expedite EV-DO Modem"
This is not an option I am presented with in the driver selection section of device manager for the Dell Card.
Can you be a bit more specific in the steps?
Also, how did you get around the detection process for the card? Mine starts that process, and just sits. |

Thanks Kate for posting that this is even possible.
I got it to work by doing the following on my Dell M1330 with Vista 32.
Follow Kate's step 1 - 4 and heed her warning about the firmware update.
For step 5 from within device manager under Modems right-click the Dell EVDO modem, click "Update Driver ...".
Click on "Browse My Computer For Driver Software"
On the next screen click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Select "Novatel Wireless Inc" for the Manufacture.
Select "Novatel Wireless Expedite EV-DO Modem" for the model.
Click Next
Back in device manager find the Ports node.
Follow the steps above to update the driver for the Dell device but this time select "Novatel Wireless Application Port" for the model.
I had to reboot here as I had trouble and received SMWAN Error 2012 when running VZ Access Manger.
It ran fine after I restared the computer and it works great.
Note: I was having lots of trouble with the Dell Broadband Card Utility. Not connecting unless I resarted the computer or reinstall the software.
This is not happening at all now. I can connect then go into standby and connect fine after resuming.
What I'm wondering is whether we should always decline the firmware updates in the future. |

Did you get yours to work? I have the 5720, but can not find a version of access manager that will work.

Sorry for being so long... Anyway, the options just as I gave them give the correct version. I also tested this using Windows 7 RTM and it works very well. You will however have to FORCE the drivers I mentioned earlier to the specific devices through your device mgr. Though, for SOME reason I decided to go to the Dell Utility again... And guess what... Horrible as always. Random "Error 0"s... Won't connect/etc. |
