And before I get started, yes, I did send an Email to tech support 3 days ago about this problem but have no answer at this point.

I got this card on 1/6/09. It worked pretty good for about 10 days then it started taking 10 to 15 seconds for it to even start passing data to open web pages? I noticed that a little "Z" (entering "dormant mode") comes up in the upper right corner of the modem desktop display 10 seconds after a page is done. Then when I try to open another page I get the same 10 to 15 second lag before data starts passing again?? I've done speed tests at Speakeasy.com and I'm bumping right up against my 1.2meg limit and signal strength on the desktop display varies between 4 and 5 bars so signal is pretty good. Oh, and around the same time that the laggggg opening pages started I noticed that my IP address block changed from 67 something to 70 something and they are listed as belonging to nTelos but from two different locations???

Now since all this happened, yesterday I started an ftp download and throttled back that software to only pull down 2KB/s, which keeps the connection active and web pages open fine. Since I'm getting 60 to 100 KB/s throughput the 2KB/s is hardly noticable but I'd like to find a way to stop this thing from going "dormant" if I could.

When I go to the "Properties" tab on the modem desktop display it says that this modem is a U727 for Sprint?

Other than this irritation it seems to do fine. So does anyone know how to get into the "back door" of one of these things so I can try to disable the "Dormant" function?

Thanks,

Ken

I found out how to solve this problem! I have that USB modem connected to another computer on my LAN that is setup as an ICS box (Internet Gateway). What was happening is that I used the nTelos connection manager to start the connection, which also starts the timer for the "dormant mode" feature (probably good for a laptop). This morning I let dialup networking start that connection and it is working fine now. Seems that when dialup networking starts it the "dormant mode" feature is disabled.

I guess my next big project will be a router to replace that ICS box.

Cheerz! Wink

Just an update on this problem. The software change did not fix it! IT'S STILL THERE. After multiple messages and phone calls to nTelos Tech support I just finally gave up and set my ICS box (that this modem is connected to) to ping Yahoo continuously and the problem is solved. It never has a chance to do into "doze mode" while the ping is running but if I stop that ping, then the thing goes into doze mode within 10 seconds of a page loading.

Not only that but I just got off the phone with Cradlepoint Tech support trying to find out if the MBR1000 is compatible with my MC727 nTelos service. They don't have a clue and it's still not listed as supported by their product? So I guess I'm screwed on that one too, hey. Ennywho, what I have now works so I guess I'll just keep on keeping on!
