Windows 7 is nice, but man can't Microsoft have Vista drivers and software working in Windows 7? I copied the Novatel program files and tried to force the software to work, but the drivers will not work. Any work arounds? Just wait for new drivers? I guess I can't use Windows 7. Kind of hoped Microsoft would have made Windows 7 not be "oh sorry, things before Windows 7 don't work".

Did you try the "Developer's Lounge" over at NovatelWireless.com?

My U727 was old enough that it came with Sprint Connection Manager instead of the Sprint Smartview software that now comes installed on it. I tried installing Sprint Smartview, which claims Windows 7 compatability, but my U727 was not recognized. I tried installing Smartview on a Vista PC and plugged the modem in to see if it worked. I was prompted that a PRL update was needed, so I let Smartview update the U727 firmware. After the update, I tried the U727 in my Windows 7 laptop. I still had trouble at first, so I right clicked on the Sprint Smartview icon and picked Troubleshoot Compatibility. I picked "Try recommended settings" and finally Smartview opened and recognized my U727 modem. If you have already installed drivers, you may need to uninstall the U727 drivers (in control panel, device manager, modems), then let the system reinstall them when you insert the card after the PRL update.

All you may need to do is download the latest version of Sprint SmartView from Sprint - it is compatible with Windows 7, download at:

I have Windows 7 Professional and it hates my Ovation u727. After I installed the latest version (2.27.0064.0) of Sprint SmartView, restarted the machine, plugged in the Ovation, it says that Windows requires digitally signed drivers and fails the driver install of all of the ovation drivers. I've tried everything I know (short of booting up with F8 and telling windows to allow installation of unsigned drivers) to get them to work, and nada.

Not happy.

After trying everything I could think of, including letting windows install digitally unsigned drivers (didnt work), I gave up, uninstalled SmartView 2.27.0064 and did a clean install of the prevous version of SmartView I had (version 2.25.0046.0) under windows 7 professional. That version installed and worked the first time without me doing anything special to it. Conclusion: Somebody forgot to digitally sign the new version of the drivers.
