I just purchased a KR2 and would like to know if the aircard bandwidth continues to be used when there is no computer usage. When I purchased the unit, I expected that the aircard would disconnect after a timeout period and then reconnect automatically when a computer requests an internet connection. Is this assumption true or not? If not, what is the approximate hourly or daily transfer rate when no information is being transferred between a computer and the router? thanks

I would be curious to know an answer to this question as well. I will be buying a Kyocera KR2 in January or February, so that my PS3 and Wii can be connected to the internet and I want to know if I can just connect to internet and maintain it as an "always on" connection or can it be configured to connect when a component requests something.

Just having the aircard/router connected will not use bandwidth. Bandwidth is only used when data is being transmitted, such as when you send an email, load a webpage, download a file, etc.

However, keep in mind that some computer programs run automatic updates (such as Windows) that may download and thus use some bandwidth even if you're not sitting at your computer. If your computer is compromised by a nasty virus, that can also eat up tons of bandwidth.

Your KR2 will submit small amounts of bytes to the tower to keep the connection "always on" even if you have no devices in use.

You can disable this by unplugging the card from the router or unplugging from the electrical outlet.
