|

Good Morning All,
I am sorry if this is the wrong place to be asking these questions. I searched the forums and could not find a specific answer.
My situation is this….(and I apologize for some of my terminology, not a real PC buff)
I live way out in the country and currently I am using a Verizon USB720 modem on a wireless Cradlepoint router (which I purchased from 3G). The signal to the modem is 2 bars at best, I would say it is a "fair" signal no matter where in the home I place it. My home is 3000 sq and we have 3 PC's (at different ends of the home) running off the wireless signal. My problems are signal strength, connectivity and speed. We have trouble at times getting all the PC's connected to the wireless signal no matter how centralized I place the modem and router. I also can not seem to get the modem signal boosted even with the store bought external antenna. Lastly, I have seen speed drop off over the past year pretty drastically.
Basically I guess my questions are…..
Is the USB 727or 760 faster than my current 720?
I see the 760 will not work with my Cradlepoint router, will the 727?
Do I need a large external antenna outside to help boost my signal? Which one?
Do I need a booster to strengthen the wireless signal throughout my home? Which one?
Thank for your time. |

| I tried the 727 and another one, dont recall model but it had the hinged USB connector and I returned both as they seemed inferior to my 720...thats just my .02 so dont view it as fact, just my honest opinion...that said, which antenna are you using?...I tried the appx $20 one Verizon sells and it made absolute zero noticable difference no matter where I placed it...again,just ny personal observation...sounds to me your main problem is with the router signal...have you added an antenna (if possible)to it or re-located it to a more centralized location?...good luck |

as explained in our USB760 review, it is no faster than any other device we've tested.
no one device is any faster, based on our testing.
speed is dependent on two things mainly:
1. your signal to the cell tower
2. how much bandwidth is provided to that cell tower.
for the most part, what you control is signal to tower.
i'd suggest you do more specific "local site survey" and provide us with answers to questions at end of this article: http://www.EVDOinfo.com/RSSI
with the answers, we can better determine what can give you better results. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |

Thank you.
ko4qc, to answer your question I just bought the $20 antenna and like you said it made zero difference.
Alex,
I will check that stuff and see. Since I use the router, I dont see the numbers anymore. However, last time i checked they were around 90. I did not get in the low 80's until I drove 2 miles down my road toward the tower. (Lots of mountains and trees in Washington state) |

|
|
Hello all,
The COO at my company has a new macbook pro. We got him a USB760 from Verizon Wireless to use when he travels. The issue however is that when he connects through VZAccess Manager the VPN connection on the MAC gets disabled. Does anyone know how to set up the macbook with the USB760 so that when connected through VZAcess Manager you can also connect to VPN? |
