Admin Note: We have a review of the Lion Battery 3550mAh (powers XV6600 for 8 - 12 hours)
I've had the Audiovox XV6600 (w/Verizon EV-DO) for a couple of weeks. Very powerful machine. Largest screen of handhelds I'm aware of, making web-browsing not impossible, particularly when put in the landscape viewing mode. I love the fact it has 5 interfaces to choose among, including slide-out qwerty, script recognizer (!) and, even though it is a PPC, a nice surprise for those who never let go of Palm's graphiti I. Battery life sucks. This week, though, aftermarket should provide 3000mAh for realistic power life.

Four weeks ago I purchased the PPC 6100 with Sprint because it was advertised as a EVDO product. I am now told by Sprint that this device does not and will never work on their EVDO network. I was told no refund or exchange!
Hope no one else makes this mistake. |

| I have the same phone and it does work on EVDO network. I live in Orlando and I am seeing anywhere from 300 - 640k down. It has not been officially release but I know it's EVDO. Downloading through my company laptop is faster than browing on the phone itself. I work for Sprint Local. Plus Verizon's Xv6600 is the same phone just has different carrier software. So don't beleive everything they tell you because most Sales Rep's dont know what EVDO is anyway. |

| Thanks for the info regarding Orlando and the 6600. Did you have to update the PRL or any other software? I have seen the Verizon version and it has the letters EVDO on the top of the screen next to the power bars. Are you also using an EVDO laptop card? If so, it should indicate that you are in a EVDO area. |

|
|
I am considering getting a XV6600 (Verizon EVDO version), can someone with one answer the following questions:
- the number of pop accounts you can have?
- can each pop account have a unique signature line?
- can you setup to check pop every xx minutes?
- if you have multiple pop, when replying, does it automatically send the reply from the correct pop account?
- can you have a different reply-to address for the pop account (I want to reply to a message and if the recipient replies, I want it to go to my 'regular' email account).
- Is there an AIM client available that works well (free or pay)?
- does the AIM client support buddy lists?
- can you have multiple AIM conversations going on at once?
- how well does the sync'ing with Outlook work (calendar/contacts/to do/notes)? Work well via BlueTooth?
Thanks in advance. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

One more question.
I am thinking of using the xv6600 with a PowerBook and Windows laptop via USB. Does the xv6600 come with a data usb cable? Can you use it as a usb modem when it is plugged into the cradle or is there a different cable to buy? _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

The number of email accounts doesn't seem to have a hard limit that I've reached. Each account can have a different signature applied. You can set the phone to check every "x" minutes, but it will only work while the PDA functions are awake. It will respond from the current account you are in. The phone keeps each account's messages seperate in pocket outlook.
I thought there was an option for a reply-to address, but can't find it right now.
There are a few IM clients out there, but I'm using Agile Messenger (free). It works well for me. I use it with AIM, MSN, ICQ, and Yahoo, and it supports server side buddy lists. Multiple conversations are no problem and there's a today plugin for status.
Sync'ing with Outlook works great for me. I've used it via USB in the past, but now I'm using Exchange ActiveSync for over-the-air updates and syncing. Bluetooth works, but I haven't tested it too extensively for Outlook sync (mainly use it for Headset, GPS, and file xfer).
The cradle it comes with is USB (a side note about the cradle is that it also charges the phone without the included AC adapter plugged in, so you essentially have two charge cables out of the box) and will work for modem connections. You can also use bluetooth or IR if preferred.
Hope that helps.. |

I am considering buying an XV6600, but need to know if it would work on a specific website I visit daily that requires Java. How can I tell if this website uses JavaScript meta refresh or something else? This is one of the key factors in which device I end up with. Thanks in advance for your assistance. |

To see if a web site uses the JavaScript meta refresh, look at the source of the HTML and if you see something like thisL
| Code: | | <meta http-equiv="refresh" content=20;url=http://domain.com/> |
then the site uses a Meta refresh.
I can 100% confirm that the XV6600 does support the JavaScript Meta Refresh tag (I confirmed it at my Dormant killer url): _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| Anyone have any thoughts of the XV6600 versus the i730 (which will be out soon). If I got the XV6600 I could get the camera version while with the i730 the camera version likely won't be out for several months. |
