Sierra Wireless Linux SDK reduces development time and cost for
developers and OEMs integrating Sierra Wireless mobile broadband
products within Linux systems
VANCOUVER, Dec. 8 /CNW/ - Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) today
announced the availability of a new software development kit (SDK) supporting
original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) using the Linux operating system. This
addition expands the company's suite of available SDKs for developers working
on applications utilizing Sierra Wireless products.
"Sierra Wireless is committed to supporting the widest possible range of
customers and applications for 3G mobile broadband," said Trent Punnett,
senior vice president, Marketing and Corporate Development for Sierra
Wireless. "The Linux SDK allows developers integrating Sierra Wireless
products into Linux-based systems - including portable devices,
machine-to-machine systems, fixed wireless terminals, vending, and fleet
management systems - to do so in a cost-effective way that supports their
tight development schedules."
The Sierra Wireless Linux SDK supports both CDMA and UMTS technologies,
providing OEM customers with a rapid development path when integrating Sierra
Wireless embedded modules. The Linux SDK includes the Application Programming
Interface (API), sample applications, utilities and documentation. It also
provides customers with access to the feature-rich Sierra Wireless Command and
Status (CnS) API including commands for voice, SMS, and data connections,
which enables lower power consumption compared to AT commands.
The Sierra Wireless Linux SDK is also available to independent software
vendors creating connection managers for network operators. This version of
the SDK supports a wide range of Sierra Wireless adapter products, including
PC card, ExpressCard and USB modems.
