I'm working with providing networked internet access to a monastery, whose cloister walls have got to contain 10 guage metal screening; there is ample EV signal on the roof, nothing in the computer room below. So an external antenna of some sort is going to be required. The cable distance from the roof to computer room is 50 - 75 feet.

My question, is it better to place the cellular modem & router near the roof and run CAT5 to a network switch below or to run cable from the antenna to the modem & router located below? Thanks for any help on this and/or other considerations in developing this 7 node network.

peace - Joshua

shorter distance from antenna to cellular modem is always best.

no speed loss occurs over ethernet run.

What router would you recommend for this application - wireless not necessary?
