I am having a problem using Xbox LIVE over VZW EVDO, using my notebook and Windows ICS. The first problem was that the MTU of the EVDO network interface was only 1200 bytes, and Xbox LIVE requires 1400 or more. A registry setting allowed me to force it to 1400. Now I can connect and login to my profile, and see any friends that are online.

Unfortunately, ping times suck really bad (1000ms and up), and so I lag out any game I try to join. Even worse, Microsoft upgraded the Xbox software last month to a brand new UI, and now I cannot load any portion of the Marketplace. I get what amounts to a timeout error (Status code: 80072ee2 - Google it, I am not alone and Microsoft says it's their problem to fix, since it worked before the new UI upgrade. I am not hopeful they will fix it).

But I took my Xbox to a friend's home this weekend, plugged into his DSL router, and was able to load the new Marketplace without a problem and of course, join online games.

My EVDO modem is the PC5750 card. I am contemplating an upgrade to the UM-175 USB modem and a CradlePoint CTR350. I already ordered the router, and will be able to test it with a UM-175 from my workplace before deciding whether to upgrade my own EVDO modem.

But then I discovered this site, and found out the information on how to lock out 1xRTT. I think my basic problem is that my modem likes 1xRTT too much, since I usually only get 130k/sec or so download speeds. Only occasionally do I see it doing up to 1900k/sec. So maybe that is all I need to do, is lock out 1xRTT. I'll try it tonight.

In the meantime, are there any pointers to getting a good experience with Xbox LIVE over a EVDO connection?

What is your signal strength in RSSI? Here is a link on RSSI signal strength http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/2107/63/

Are you sure you are on RevA with 1000ms ping times it doesnt sound like it. I am using a 5750 on verizon with a linksys wrt54g3g router and a parabolic grid and things are working wonderfully. I was using an omni trucker antenna before but since have replaced it. My ping times are usually <125ms

This very moment, it is -89. Earlier in this session it was -76.

No, I am not sure. My Ctrl-D diagnostic screen does not resemble the descriptions elsewhere on the forum. It does say "BroadbandAccess" next to the signal bars.

Oh look, it just now switched to NationalAccess. -81dbm now.

Mikebat,

I used to have similar problems. I am an xbox junkie and was excited to find out about evdo high speed internet. When I got home with my new modem I was disappointed because I lagged out of every other game I played. I did some research and found that ICS will slow down your connection. If you get a router like the KR2 or the MBR, it will help with this dramatically. If you go on your xbox the NAT should probably says moderate (or something about limited connectivity). When you get your router, it will be xbox live compatible and it will say "open" like it should.

Once you get your router, you won't have a perfect ping all of the time, but you will 75% of the time. If you're like me and evdo is the only high speed internet you can get, lag is just something that you'll have to live with. I haven't found any way to completely get rid of it.

I just bought a CTR-350 from 3Gstore. The computer seems to work. But my Xbox live keeps giving me an MTU failed notice. I just ran the speed test and it shows 2092 KB/s down and 435 up. Ping was 103 at 50 miles.

Anyone know what I need to do?

I tried customer support but it just put me on hold with background music. I couldn't tell if they were open or not. Are they open at night?

I had this problem when I tried Windows ICS to get on Xbox LIVE. Xbox requires a MTU of 1400 bytes or larger. Windows had it set to 1200 bytes. I had to change the MTU in Windows. I think I used DrTCP. Might have been a registry tweak. I forgot exactly. But the CTR350 ought to have an adjustment there.

I tried calling customer support but was on hold for a long time. I guess they are closed. Wish they would tell you that instead of placing you on hold with out knowing....

The UM-175 and CTR-350 work really well. Xbox LIVE Marketplace and joining games work just as well as a DSL line, except for downloads.
