|

Hey guys,
I have purchased a Linksys WRT54G3GV2-ST router to use with my Compass 597. Everything works fine on it except for one thing. It seems that it will occasionally disconnect me from the internet, then reconnect itself a short time after ( usually takes around 1 minute to reconnect). It will do this anywhere from every 10 minutes to every 2 hours. At first I thought it was my computer, but then experienced the same problems on 2 other laptops. Also, when I have the actual Compass 597 card plugged into my computer I do not experience these problems at all. Is there a firmware upgrade or something I can do to fix this? It has been getting very annoying. Thanks in advance! |

There hasn't been any firmware upgrades released for the WRT54G3GV2-ST yet. Here are your options:
- try resetting the router to factory settings
- re-install the current firmware (hard to find, but available)
- noticed in a different thread you locked HDR, you might try reverting to see if that resolves it.
- you could have a problem with your router
- you might have better luck with a CradlePoint Router _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Thanks for the quick response.
I have tried all that you have suggested and still no luck. I guess my only other option would be to buy the cradlepoint router like you said. Thank you very much for your help and suggestions! |

I'm having the same problem. Constantly reconnecting, but seems fine when not plugged into the router (Sprint Compass 597). Any help will be appreciated.
If I decided to go with a cradlepoint router, do you know which ones will work with the USB Compass 597?
I'm really frustrated, but I don't want to shell out money for yet another router only to have the same problems.
Thanks,

| I have the same problem, and have been unable to find any help on it other than this post. I have a 3gv2 router with a compass 597. I get a consistent -89 dBm signal. Once in a while the router disconnects from all the computers and then reconnects. It seems like it disconnects more frequently when I'm transferring more data. If I download something, it disconnects in a couple minutes, but I've been searching these forums and reading email for 3 hours and it has stayed connected. Another forum said "do not use the linksys setup cd" and that's what I used. Could that be part of the problem? How would I setup my network without the cd.? |

I had the same problem with mine - tore my hair out for months trying to chase down mystery disconnects on both wired and wifi clients. I use it as the main router into my DSL line with the s720 card as fail-over to ensure my wife's home business can stay online.
Finally I disabled the wifi on the router completely and plugged a WAP4400N access point into it. I have had rock solid WiFi and not a single disconnect since (it's been a month - before I'd get a disconnect at least once every half hour or so). This is the second one of these Linksys routers I've had that enabling WiFi causes the router to become unstable. The WAP4400N was a tremendous improvement over the WRTG54G3G-ST in terms of WiFi signal also, and much better than the WRT150n I had uplinked into the WRTG54G3G as well. |

| I have the same problem. A chat with a tech named "Imee Love T" from Linksys support suggested that I try lowering the MTU from 1500 to 1300. I just changed it...so we'll see. I'm not holding out much hope though. |

| I am having this problem too. WRT54G3GV2-ST with 597U. I used the WRT54G3GV2-ST for some time with my old Pantech PX-500 and it was very reliable. I switched to the 597U and now Wifi disconnects a few times an hour. Has anyone come up with a solution? One guy from Linksys told me to change the MTU to 1365. I tried but it didn't make any difference. Another guy told me to reset to factory defaults. It didn't make any difference either. Good thing I haven't sold my PX-500 yet. I think I will switch back. |

I took your advice and picked up a CTR350 from 3gstore earlier today. The folks there were very nice. So far the CTR350 works just fine, but time will tell. |

I have spent two months, trying to determine whether or not I was having problems with my Compass 597 Aircard or the Linksys Router. It would disconnect and reconnect from the network 10-12 times per hour. Sprint replaced the Aircard, which has always worked fine in my laptop anyway, on when it's in the Router did the problems arise. Linksys was completely useless on replacement or assistance with this matter. STAY AWAY from this router. I just ordered a new Cradlepoint from the 3G store. I have faith that it will work. Also the folks at 3G, know more about mobile broadband products than Sprint/Linksys combined. _________________ no more linksys |

| I'm currently beta testing a firmware upgrade (1.00.15) from Linksys. So far, so good, after 1 day of use. No disconnects. It took a lot of patience and an enormous amount of luck to get to somebody at Linksys who could help. I don't know what their plans are for releasing the firmware. |

The firmware beta seemed to make the problem worse, in that now the wireless connection from the router to the laptop will disconnect rather than the router disconnecting the modem.
I've returned the router. |

Bought my WRT54G3G-ST last Feb, used the 3G store supplied CD, went round and round with Linksys, received a new router, same ole same ole. The first one might disconnect from the in house wireless or the modem and often had to be rebooted to work. The wireless signal was weak anyway so I now use my Belkin N router, that I used with the Hughes Satellite system I dumped for 3g, as an access point and now only lose connection to the 597. I will try to disable the Linksys wireless as advixed in an earlier thread and see what happens. Cheaper than buying a new router.
I have one other problem I don't see mentioned. I did a test to confirm that I get a real drop in an already poor signal using the router vs direct connection to the laptop. (I will adjourn to the antenna forum when I leave here) I get -94 to -100 connected to the laptop and -106 to -120 on Rev A connected to the router. I have a sorry little Sierra antenna that I can leave in one spot while moving the 597 back and forth between router and laptop.
Any solution to this second problem of signal loss. Any other routers cause signal loss?
I will add that at times the -99 signal gives FAST surfing and downloads and i would be completely happy with that after living with Hughes for 9 years. _________________ Sprint 597 USB |
