There are some interesting items reported in this article.
- Verizon EVDO Coverage to double by the end of 2005
- 7- 5 million people CAN get it now, 150 million by the end of 2005
- average EVDO throughput is 400 - 600 kbit/s (vs. 300 - 400 kbit/s)
- they will be upgrading to EVDO Rev A and offer VOIP over EVDO (we already tried VOIP over EV-DO)
- begin field trials of <a href="http://www.EVDOinfo.com/The_News/Latest_News/Verizon_EV-DO_Rev_A_coming_2006_2005031597/">EVDO Rev A</a> towards the end of 2006.

I knew Sprint jumping in would cause good things for us... if only they could expand the Miami coverage a few more miles south I would be golden!
Incase the link gets the axe soon, here is a clipping:
According to an investor presentation the company made in late January, the EV-DO network was then available to 75 million people, and EV-DO subscribers totaled 75,000.
One insider, who asked not to be identified, says the company is stepping up its commitment to the new offering and is accelerating the network buildout. This person says that under the new plan, Verizon Wireless will reach by midyear its 2005-end goal of having the EV-DO network available to 150 million people. |

Verizon has cashed over $1000 of my checks to put towards their expansion and I've only used EVDO for 1 hour in Jacksonville, FL while traveling. So I surely do hope they remember me while they're planning their expansion. If there are several thousand more folks out there like myself, all this "new stuff" should be paid for by now.
My gut feeling is: I'll be very surprised to see EVDO here in Greenville, SC by Christmas, whether it be Verizon or Sprint. With BellSouth so strong in this region, the likelyhood of UTMS via Cingular is probably greater. Probably my fault for not doing enough research first, but it's kind of like the lottery--you have to pay to play. |

Good Lord I hope it does make it to greenville, that is one of the cities I work in and yes it is slow... I make sure my hotel has a T1/Cable connection before I get there.
Personally I am surprised that the Space Coast of Florida does not have it. There is NASA, Harris, etc. with all those geeky techs that would jump on this service if made available. |

There is NASA, Harris, etc. with all those geeky techs that would jump on this service if made available. | I was surprised it wasn't in Daytona during the first NASCAR race. Seems to me this would have been great advertising. I see tons of RVs with every form of Internet imaginable while I'm there, but no highspeed Verizon. If they would have done their homework and had it ready in time, 30 people manning a Verizon Wireless HighSpeed Internet tent just outside Daytona USA could have landed them at least 10000 subscribers easy. Maybe they decided to go after the SuperBowl crowd instead. I would gone the other way or done both if I was a Verizon executive. |
