|
|
While the cradlepoint website is down some of the cradlepoint routers will crash when reset due to the automatic firmware check (enabled by default). If you encounter this problem try the following:
1) Unplug your USB/Wireless card from the cradlepoint router
2) Power on your router
3) Log into your router
4) Go to Tools > Firmware
5) Uncheck "Automatically Check Online for Latest Firmware Version"
6) Save the change and restart the router
7) Plug your USB/Wireless card back in
Enjoy!
The problem is with some (or all firmware) the "Automatically Check Online for Latest Firmware Version" feature is causing the routers to crash (or hang on some kind of infinite loop) while the cradlepoint website is down. So lesson learned, don't allow automatic firmware checks! |

Funny, I just posted in our other thread speculating that the 350 was having problems phoning home.
Sounds like a major bug! I'll do as you suggested, but I can't try until tomorrow.
Thanks for the info!!! |

I encountered the issue with the UM150 and CTR 350 with firmware 2.1.0 and 2.2.1.
Both firmwares failed identically. |

| Thanks for the info! I was just about to post about my 350 freezing. I'll check my settings when I get home, and I hope this was the problem. I'd hate to have to get a replacement router. |

I don't believe your router is having the same problem. This only happened when cradlepoint website was down. In your case I would recommend a factory reset to see if that helps any |

Which Cradlepoint router do you have? Firmware version you are running? |

I disabled automatic firmware check on my CTR350 back in November when this first came out and it's still disabled.
I figured that since I hit the EVDOforums every day anyway I'll know when it's time to go manually update the firmware. _________________ WVBill |

From what I gather there was an issue that time because Cradlepoint's web site was having issues. Probably ok to turn that feature back on now. As you, I follow the firums so I just leave it off. |

|
|
I have been getting HUGE bills from Verizon that do not seem to have anything to do with my internet activity.
Could I be exceeding my monthly download allowance because I leave the router on all of the time.
Will disabling the auto update on the firmware fix this? This would not be an issue except for the $$ bringing it to our attention.
Thanks. |

The firmware check is a tiny request, like:
Router Asks:
"I am a MBR1000 running 1.6"
Server Returns:
"current" or "2.0 is latest".
If this check is run daily or when the router is powered on, it would have zero impact on your Verizon bill.
That is maybe 20 - 40 bytes of data.
1024 bytes equals 1K
1000K = 1 megabyte
1000 megabytes = 1GB
Your Verizon limit is 5GB/month. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Thank you. I thought as much.
However, any other clues besides disabling the Vista auto updates from MS?
Thanks again. |

No teenagers, but a wife who is fairly clueless about what goes on with her computer. I will check it out.
Thank you. |
