| Anyone have an instruction set for doing this? I know ive seen it somewhere, even with screenshots, but i forgot to bookmark it. Looking to using my wrt54g3gv2-st with a GPRS/EDGE TMobile Datacard. Might not be the fastest connection but from what i was told at the store and at Tmo CC theres no data cap on the total internet package that the aircards sim would have. |

The flash process fails because the AT firmware fails the checksum. You will need to open the AT firmware with a binary editor and change the header. I outlined the procedure in another thread on this Forum. The AT firmware is available from Linksys/Cisco website in the Support Section.
Be aware, flashing any firmware can "brick" your router. Installing a non-factory firmware increases those chances. Use at your own risk!
I have installed VN software on several ST badged WRT54G3G boxes with great success. I have not personally tried doing the same for AT firmware. It should work, but again I have no first hand experience with it.

Hi rla2005.
I tried to find your instructions for editing the header in the bin file, but could not find it. I even tried editing the header myself, but I assume am doing it completly wrong.
Any ideas or help
Thanx |

Assuming you are trying to load the firmware for AT&T aka UMTS onto your Sprint encoded router download the AT firmware from Linksys. Use a Hex Editor to open the .bin file. The beginning of the first line you should see something resembling W3GA. Change the "A" to a "S".Save the file. I normally save it as a different name so as not to overwrite the original unhacked firmware. Now you can use the web GUI on the router to upgrade your firmware. Point it to the "hacked" version of firmware you just updated from A to S.
Once the upload is complete, use the reset to factory defaults option on the Admin page. Reboot the router. Then I suggest to do a 30/30/30 reset. Hold the Reset button for 30 seconds, while still holding reset button unplug the power for 30 seconds. While still holding the reset button re-apply power, continue to hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Now release the reset button. Your router should now be ready to re-configure.
I have used this method multiple times to change my V1 ST router to a VN version and back again. It should work to go to a UMTS version router too. Your results may vary on a V2 router.
Use this method at your own risk. You do risk turning your router into a brick ANYTIME you flash a new firmware regardless if it is factory supplied or not.
Update: The V2 ST firmware appears to follow the same coding methodology as the V1. The factory V2-ST firmware headers starts with 3G2S. The firmware for the WRT54G3GV2-VF firmware does have a different coding scheme. It may take some tweaking to get it load. I do not have any V2 boxes so I cannot verify if you can tweak the header for the V2-VF software. |

DD-WRT does have some compiled code listed in the buried WRT54G3G folders, but I have not gotten them to work yet because they do not include drivers for the card-bus interface. With some chasing down of drivers you could possibly make it work, but I have other things to do in life. I will hack and modify things to suit my needs so I know what you are trying to do.
These Linksys WRT54G3G boxes have very little support from Linksys/Cisco. I also have installed a few Cradlepoint boxes, they are a good product that is well supported by the OEM. You get what you pay for. When asked by other people I currently recommend the Cradlepoint product unless they are stuck with a PCMCIA aircard. |

Hi guys,
Thank you so much for the replies.
I came across this post: hxxp://xxx.evdoforums.com/thread6209-0-asc.html
I downloaded the firmware and i can upgrade a WRT54G3G-EU.
The thread mentions that it works with WRT54G3G-ST. However, I don't know don't know if the WRT54G3GV2-ST is different from the WRT54G3G-ST.
I have downloaded the image and changed the header. I managed to upload the firmware successfully, but I still see the dreaded Linksys Webif. It is almost as it is not seeing the new image.
I am really new to all this. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!!! |
