I've got a CTR - 350 router and am thinking about a service switch . New service is doing pantech UM175 (UTstar or something i think) but the CTR - 350 doesn't specify the UM175. The CTR - 350 does specify the UM150 card though. Anybody using a cradlepoint CTR - 350 with an UM175 usb device? Question

I too would like to know the answer to this issue...there has to be someone out there. I emailed cradlepoint but have not heard back from them but this time of year it might run a bit behind I suppose.

E-MAIL:(TO CRADLEPOINT TECHNICAL SUPPORT),

US Cellular in the last month has activated EV-DO revision A in the Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison markets. They offer two wireless Modems; the UT Starcom UM175, and the Kyocera ExpressCard KPC680. I barrowed EV-DO enabled cell phone from my nephew. I was able to get EV-DO at my mail box and front porch with 2 bars signal strength on the phone. In the house with my cellular repeater the phone displayed full signal strength. The repeater is only an 850 MHz system so I am concluding that US Cellular is broadcasting on 850 MHz. I have some questions.

Will the US Cellular UT Starcom UM175 modem work on the CradlePoint MBR1000 router?

What will I need to do to get US Cellular UT Starcom UM175 modem to work the CradlePoint MBR1000 router?

REPLY:(FROM CRADLEPOINT TECHNICAL SUPPORT),

So to answer your question:

1. Technically, we do not support the UM175 on the US Cellular network. We haven't done enough testing on them, and many times special alterations in the firmware have to be made in order for it to fully function. However, the UM175 works on a number of many other networks, and it is probable that the US Cellular will work just as well with our router as its many cousins. We cannot guarantee functionality, but from my own personal experience I find it likely. It will definitely not cause any damage to either product if you test it out, and is worth a shot.

2. If it indeed works, you should jsut have to plug the modem into our router. The router's MDM light will start flashing green, and then turn solid green (sometimes it turns orange rather than flashing green). When it turns solid green, you have a connection and the MBR1000 should function as a router and wifi hotspot.

Technical Support

It would be nice to hear from someone at the 3Gstore that the UT Starcom UM175 modem flashes green when placed in to the CradlePoint MBR1000 router. Anybody?

I have it. It does work, most of the time. I called CP before I bought the CTR-350 to ask if the UM175 (VZW) was supported, and was told that it was supported and only the CradlePoint website was out of date.

When I called about my intermittent outages, I was told I could not be given any help because the UM175 is not supported on the CTR-350 yet. They said it was supported in the next firmware release, but they could give me no date. They offered to upgrade me to a CTR-500 for the cost difference, $50.

The problem I am having is that every few hours, I will get a period of 5-10 minutes where I have no internet access, yet the status lights and the Modem Info page shows the connection is active. It just starts working after a few minutes, and remains solid for several more hours before it quits again. By the time I can insert the card into my notebook to check status with the VZ Access Manager, the problem has cleared up.

CP won't help me with this until the UM175 is officially supported at some indefinite point in the future, or I upgrade the router.
