VANCOUVER, Nov. 7 /CNW/ - Sierra Wireless today announced support for Microsoft Windows 7 Mobile Broadband, demonstrated this week at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) in Los Angeles. As a result of close collaboration with Microsoft Corp., the latest generation of Sierra Wireless devices for HSPA and EVDO networks support Windows 7 Mobile Broadband with a NDIS 6.20 compliant driver. Windows 7 MobileBroadband simplifies the mobile broadband customer experience by enablingusers to connect to their mobile broadband service using the View AvailableNetworks feature within Windows, a process similar to connecting to a WiFi network.

"The integration of mobile broadband connectivity within the Windows 7 operating system offers tremendous advantages to our end customers in terms of simplicity and connection time," said Jim Kirkpatrick, chief technology officer for Sierra Wireless. "We see thisas an essential evolution in Sierra Wireless products, and have been pleased to collaborate with Microsoft to ensure our products support the better customer experience that we expect Windows 7 Mobile Broadband to provide."

Windows 7 Mobile Broadband was demonstrated during the opening keynote address on Wednesday, using the Sierra Wireless Compass(TM) 885 USB modem. Compass 885 support is also being demonstrated within the Microsoft Pavilion during expo hall hours and will be part of the "Mobile Broadband Driver Development in Windows 7" technical session, scheduled for Friday, November 7th at 8:30 AM.
