|
|
Sprint announced at 4:30pm yesterday that they are severing their internet connection to Cogent Communications. According to this press release, "it is no longer possible for many Sprint customers and Cogent customers to directly communicate across the Internet". In addition, for Sprint users attempting to connect to any websites or servers serviced by Cogent, this could prove to be a big problem.
At 3Gstore.com, we understand that this could come as a major inconvenience to some of our Sprint customers, so we wanted to suggest some FREE workarounds that we hope will help you.
If you are having trouble accessing specific websites, we would suggest using a proxy server. Using a proxy server is like using a translator to speak with someone who doesn’t understand your language. Instead of dealing directly with the server you want, you’ll be making a request somewhere else (the proxy) and then your connection will view web content that is forwarded to you. We created a PDF file on how to use a proxy server, so we encourage our customers (who purchased their Sprint Cards from us) to email support(at)3gstore.com to request a copy. |

Clap...Clap...Clap
Bravo Sprint.
You saved a few thousand dollars by eroding service from within by way of the old selective DNS server trick.
I haven't been able to connect to various sites for nearly two weeks now and
Sprint is finally getting around to making an announcement - after the fact.
What next, I'll have to move to Europe to get decent goods and services because
the telecom ownership society in the USA has to make a buck first? |

I don't see how Sprint really thinks this is a solution to a problem. Cogent is one of the bigger internet backbone providers.
Here is a map if your interested http://www.cogentco.com/us/network_map.php |

| Ok, anyone have any suggestions on what proxy server to use? I've found a list of free ones, but they either don't work, slow everything down to a crawl, or if they do work, suddenly my new home page is Chinese Yahoo. |

If you cannot get to this web site, you are being blocked:
http://www.ipower.com
Solution, download Hotspot Shield from:
http://www.anchorfree.com
Which works on Macs and Windows.
Connect with Hotspot Shield and BOOM, you are now getting around being blocked. There are many other reasons to use Hotspot Shield (like being secure at a hotspot).
I have been using Hotspot Shield for months and it works great! _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Well I took your advice and installed it. It works, But it's not something I want to keep running though, that two inch banner ad across every web page is a little more than annoying. I'll keep it installed though, and just launch it whenever I come across a site that won't connect. Thanks.
Sprint really needs to stop this practice of punishing it's loyal customers. It seems like every move they've made in the last 6 months has been to our detriment. It seems like every move they make, we end up suffering for it. Now they've cut us off from a huge portion of the internet? I don't get it.
Edit: been on playing around, it looks like Hotspot Shield's banner ad doesn't show up in the Opera browser. I guess I'm an Opera user from now on, at least until Sprint knocks off this nonsense. Been reading up on the issue to, this doesn't just affect us EVDO users, this move has pretty much broken the internet for millions of users. |

I got Mozilla Firefox 3 to stop displaying the banner by using the Adblock Plus add-on then telling it to Adblock Image (one by one) and any Adblock Frame that is at or near the banner area.
I had to close Firefox and reopen it for this to finally hold but Adblock Plus saved the day.

Couldn't stop thinking about the various new users of Sprint EVDO who have had to make major commitments towards its use in order to operate a business with it.

Funny thing happened just now. I'm able to access previously blocked sites without any proxy or anchorfree software.
I'm going to call the pumper back into the fire station. |
