|
|
I have a Linksys 3GV2 and was having issues with it dropping my modem completely (power down the modem, then back on, dropping my inet connection). So I have given up on that router in favor of getting a Cradlepoint CTR500. Ok, so thats all great except that while I was surfing the net here, I noticed that my Smartview was showing me connected at CDMA EVDO REV A, and then blipped for a few seconds over to 1xRTT for about a second or two, then back to REV A.
This made me think, since my Compass 597 remained with a blue solid connection light, and not going red, that perhaps the Linksys router now could NOT handle this minor service change, and would only access CDMA REV A versus 1xRTT. I posted this here thinking it might generate ideas on if people have encountered this with their routers, not just Linksys. |

You can set your aircard to EVDO only mode in Sprint SmartView, but keep in mind that this will prevent the device from connecting to 1xRTT at all until returned to automatic mode.
It will cause you to disconnect when switching [cellular] networks in the router. Some routers handle this better than others, for example the CradlePoint routers will usually automaticlly reconnect vs. Linksys may remain disconnected until you manually reconnect.
If the issue is that your losing EVDO signal, you may want to look at the antennas or possibly antennas & amps. |

Its not that I am losing signal at all, connected via the router OR my computer. It is not even switching between the blue and red signal lights. Its just remaining on the blue, but alternating between 1xRTT and REV A. So it depends on how well the router perhaps, can handle switching between those services, though not completely switching to a new carrier service.
Maybe I am mixing up these services and need to educate myself on the difference between REV A and 1xRTT compared to when my modem turns to the red light which is "Roaming" i think.
Also keep in mind that my connection on my laptop is not dropping, only when connected to the router. |

| What you are referring to is a 1x tune away. It's working exactly how it was designed. On an EVDO handset the phone idles on the EVDO channel and occasionally looks to the 1x/voice channels for pages that would indicate an incoming voice call. This usually happens every two seconds or so. On a data card, the card is just keeping in touch with the 1x network incase it runs out of EVDO signal and needs to go to 1x. If you are stationary and have a good DO signal you may want to set your card to EVDO only. Each time the device tunes away it pauses whatever you are doing even if you are actively downloading. While this pause is in the milliseconds, it does cause some slowdown. |

| All very good information there. I wonder if I can set my Cradlepoint 500 to handle that? Seems like something the Sprint utility would do as well, and it seems my Linksys router was unable to handle that really. But the Cradlepoint seems to do well. |
