|

Anyone know if they make an express card that allow a 3rd USB modem to hook up to the MBR1000?
Anyone tried using a USB hub to hook up 3 usb modems to the MBR1000?
Thanks in advance!

Cause I already got 3 USB modems
2 U727's and one UM150.
(I got four if you count the Mogul).

Well, I I managed to break my own rule (try before asking).
Honestly, I did not think I had a USB hub any longer.
So, the answer is.... It sure looks like it works!
I had to make sure the modems where plugged into the hun in order (ie: don't skip a port), and the third modem shows up in the router's setup as attached to the ExpressCard port.
If you hook two modems up to the hub, then attach the third USB modem to the router, the 3rd will show up as hooked to the Expresscard.
I suspect the order that you plug them into the router makes the difference (and perhaps the order of the usb port's you use on the router).
So, it appears that the MBR1000 can support 3 USB modems.

for clarity's sake... can you post a photo of your "USB hub"?
cuz i'm pretty sure you mean an expresscard adapter with USB ports. right? _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |

NO NO NO
It is not an express card adapter. It is an industry standard powered USB 2.0 HUB (I don't think I really need to post a picture, do I?).
Anyway, the "powered" part is probably important
Plug in 3 modems into the USB hub, utilizing the hub's USB ports 1, 2 and 3, then plug the hub into the MBR1000's side USB port.
All three modems will show up on the MBR1000 modem status page.
Two of the modems will show up as on the router's USB#1, and USB#2 ports, and one of the modems will show up as plugged into the MBR-1000's expresscard port (even though it is not).
As an alternate, you can plug two of the modems into the hub, and one of the modems into the other USB port on the back of the router.
This leads me to believe that internally, the MBR-1000 actually maps the expresscard port to USB (ie: the router's express card is really an "Epressocard to USB" connection (can you tell I am dreaming of a Starbucks latte?)...
If Cradlepoint would adjust the software a bit, then it might be possible to hook as as many as 127 modems to the router
If the router's USB #1 and #2 ports are actually seperate hubs (doubtfull), then you could hook up 254 modems X
If the router's USB #1 and #2 ports are actually seperate hubs, and the express card was also internally hooked to a seperate USB hub (really doubtfull), then you could hook up 381 modems X X
Of course, the router would probably have a melt down trying to keep up with the bandwidth
Actually, even now, it might even be possible to have more than 3 modems hooked up, depending on how they coded things, however, it is doubtfull the status and load balance pages would show the additional modems.
If you really need me to post a pic, let me know.
In the mean time, I hope all the MBR-1000 owners with more than two USB EVDO devices can make good use of this info, and not do anything evil (such as use it to grab up every last bit of bandwidth a Sprint tower can supply to a bunch of uncapped accounts BwHAHAHAHAHAHA).

OK, very cool. I'm guessing you do not have more than three active USB modems, or you would have TRIED that, right?
hmm... (counting my active EVDO devices)
hmmmmm... (looking for my powered USB hub)

Well, I must admit, I am thinking about hooking up Lynda's new Mogul
I just saw these notes over at CradlePoint... I am using two 727's and one UM150
Load Balancing with Novatel modems. The router can load balance with two Novatel modems, but if three modems (either three Novatel or two Novatel and another brand) are attached the performance will be degraded. This phenomenon has not been seen with three of other brand modems or phones. This limitation will be removed in future firmware releases.
Those guys are great! I need to tell um to hurry up so I can bleed a one of Dan Hesse's towers dry. Wait a sec... I'll just use multiple routers and multiple VM's
