|
|
I have been searching, and still am, for this answer.
I have my current setup connecting through ICS in Vista through my Netgear router... it's working too.
BUT... I want to get a proper EVDO router.
What I want to know, is can I get the 350 and connect this to my uplink port on my netgear router?
I don't want to just get another router if I need to, but I need rj45 access... |

Alex,
I can see how my router can fetch a DHCP address from CTR350, say 192.168.0.100 and NAT and route to my home subnet of 192.168.2.x. But then, I am double NATted. I run webcam's, FTP servers, slingboxes, Apple Remote Desktops all successfully through my current Cable ISP to my Apple Extreme N router. I want to use my EvDO usb card as a backup to my ISP. I was hoping to use the CTR350 for it. But cannot figure out how to set up the CTR350 (I don't need the WiFi portion of the box) to simply bridge the IP from the upstream EvDO part to the downstream RJ45 Ethernet part.
I have copied down the IP address, subnet mask and gateway and DNS addresses from my carrier. Do I just switch off WiFi, DHCP and enter the static IP info into the LAN settings? And then use the same IP settings on my Apple Extreme N router for its WAN settings?
Or do I have to set up DHCP and NAT on the CTR350 and use it as a router, never as a bridge? What is the IP protocol with EvDO carriers? Are these static IPs or are they dynamic IPs like DHCP?
Thanks in advance for clarifying this mysterious part of EvDO.

CYing,
Check your email, you should find 3Gstore's "Cascading Two Routers" tipsheet. This detailed guide will help you configure both routers with the proper settings to avoid issues like IP conflicts, firewall issues, etc.

If you purchased your CradlePoint router from 3Gstore.com feel free to request a copy of this tipsheet in PDF format. Send an email to:

I just got my CTR 350 and would like to hook it up to my Linksys router to share my EVDO internet across my wired network. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance for helping a EVDO newbie.

Here's what I did to solve this problem:
Setup for the CTR350:
DHCP off
LAN address: 192.168.0.1
Firewall off
Wireless off
DMZ on, directed to IP 192.168.0.3
Packet shaping off (my D-Link does it for me)
Regular cat5 cable connected to uplink on D-Link router)
Setup for my D-Link router (all computers are connected to this router):
Static WAN address: 192.168.0.3
Static LAN address: 192.168.1.1
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DHCP on (using 192.168.1.*)
Firewall on
Packet shaping on
Result: happiness

P.S. All of that is from memory, but I'm pretty sure it's correct |

You're welcome! I had to figure that stuff out myself, so I'm glad to share the knowledge.
Now that I'm home, here's a couple more settings I forgot about:
CTR350:
"Enable DNS Relay" is turned ON
RIP & IGMP OFF
Router:
WAN & LAN subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Primary DNS Server: 192.168.0.1
"Enable DNS Relay" is turned ON
RIP OFF
I'm not entirely sure what the RIP option is supposed to do, but it works for me with this config.

| I assume this is the same for connecting a Wifi Access Point, correct? I am on a boat and exiting evdo territory for a while and will swap my evdo antenna for a wifi and connect up a WAP to the antenna and to the 350 via ethernet. Will it work and allow me to get to the WAP web interface to select which signal I want to use? |

| If I understand what you're trying to do, I think the answer is yes. The port on the 350 can be used as a WAN input or a LAN output. For my setup, I obviously use it as the LAN output. |

thats tricky. success will depend on if the WAP and CTR350 use the same subnet or not.
why not just use the WAP's ethernet to connect to your mac? _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |

Because we need a wifi network for 2 computers, less wires, already have the router, etc.
I guess if it does not work I can enet to Mac1 and share via airport to mac2. But, I am trying to avoid enet to mac1.
Thanks. |

by default, cradlepoints use 192.168.0.xxx
i believe you want to setup your WAP such that its ip address is fixed in the same range, that way you can address its admin via browser.
of course. i'm not good enough to work in our tech support, so i could be sending you into a frustrating wall. be careful. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |
