I want my ctr-350/USB727 to be used exclusively for VPN so I thought a static route on my linksys WRT54G would be the way. I think I need a blow-by-blow description of how to do this. I opened a help ticket on this 18415-3723120801 which so far hasn't given me enough info.
My Hughes Satellite modem uses the WAN port on my linksys and broadcasts nicely throughout the house. The CTR350 with EVDO modem doesn't broadcast as far so I thought connecting a lan cable and letting the linksys do the broadcasting was the way to go. You get into heavy networking lingo quickly down this path ( RIP, interface, subnet mask etc ). I may eventually need an antenna for the evdo modem since upstairs ( metal roof ) I get about -76 dBm -- downstairs 65-72
IP on the linksys is 192.168.1.1 doing DHCP from 192.168.1.100 for 150 users The CTR is using 192.168.2.0 subnet with IP 192.168.2.250

Check your email, you should find 3Gstore's "Cascading Two Routers" tipsheet. This detailed guide will help you configure both routers with the proper settings to avoid issues like IP conflicts, firewall issues, etc.

OK, I have all in hand and no luck yet... CP 350 and RadioLabs High Power Access Point (AP). I set the CP Enet port to WAN and static IP using the static IP in the range for the AP (192.168.1.11) and I tried to access the AP via it admin IP: 192.168.1.100, but it is not found.
The settings I was unsure of were:
Gateway Address
DNS server
Thoughts?

I just wanted to say thanks. I used this setup with my CTR350 connected to my DLINK DGL-4500, which also connects to a Linksys WRT54G. I have a very wide wireless network now. This is a nice solution, because i didn't have to alter my existing wireless network in any way besides adding the static wan link on the DGL-4500 as listed below.
I just got my CTR350 yesterday and i'm loving it so far. Was up and running in about 10 mins.

Setup for the CTR350:
DHCP off
LAN address: 192.168.0.1
Firewall off
Wireless off
DMZ on, directed to IP 192.168.0.3
Packet shaping off (my D-Link does it for me)
Regular cat5 cable connected to uplink on D-Link router)
Setup for my D-Link router (all computers are connected to this router):
Static WAN address: 192.168.0.3
Static LAN address: 192.168.1.1
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DHCP on (using 192.168.1.*)
Firewall on
Packet shaping on
Result: happiness

P.S. All of that is from memory, but I'm pretty sure it's correct |

Now I am in real world testing/tweaking of this situation:
Wifi access point (AP) accesses hotspot (AP is high power to omni antenna) and sends data via ethernet to CP 350. CP enet port is set to WAN using DHCP.
When I connect the enet directly to a Mac using DHCP, it runs fine. But when the AP is connected to the CP via enet, the CP does not pass the data. I can get to the AP web interface via the CP. But the CP does not see the net. It seems like a DNS issue and all DNS settings are set to get it from the isp.
Ideas? |
