I've had an ec228 for a few months now. I didn't order a router because I didn't know for sure if it would work with one (not officially supported). My dad goes to alltel and gets the um175 and orders a mbr1000. It does not work with the alltel version of the um175 (right now).

While on the phone with 3gstore support (Troy I think), I mention I have an ec228. I plug it in and presto, I get a solid mdm light. I am now running 3 wireless computers off my ec228.

I was told they (Cradlepoint) were working on getting the alltel version of the um175 to work with the mbr1000. They support the um150, and I've heard of people using the um175 through verizon, but it does not work with alltel right now.

Hopefully they will support the um175 soon, and I will be able to test the load balancing with both modems on the alltel network.

I hope this will be helpful, because Troy from support did not know the ec228 would work with the mbr1000. I will take pictures to prove and post them and speed tests when possible.

BTW- This is my other thread: http://www.evdoforums.com/thread9925.html

FYI - User Ninetoes reports his ec228 works with the ctr350 in that thread.

I have the modem and router in the office. The modem is attached with the long booster cord (supplied with modem) and is hanging in the blind by the window.

Here's my speed in the country with the ec228 and the mbr1000 on the Alltel Network:

(I'm sitting at the far end of my house on the toilet Wink )

Outside (2 out of 5 bars on wifi signal):

Living Room-fastest speed I've seen with this modem:

Yeah this helps, thanks for the info.

I would really like to get the 175 to work since it is newer (shiny) lol

But i will take whatever works right now!

The um175 is nice (and shiny Wink).

I saw speeds comparable to the ec228 while directly connected to the computer. It did not come with a disk, and while installing software straight from the modem, I saw the "mass storage device" bubble at the bottom. I'm not sure how much onboard memory it has though.

Hopefully they will support the alltel 175 soon.

Update: More than 24 hours straight plugged in. Neither myself or my wife have touched the router. Both our wireless computers hook up and work flawlessly.

I've read stories of the mbr1000 freezing up, and the alltel network kicking you off after 12 hours. I plugged it all in friday about 5:30-6 pm, it is now almost 10 pm saturday night and it is still running strong.

However, the router reports Connection Up Time : 0 Day 4 Hour 16 Min 29 Sec, so I investigate. It appears in the log that the modem was disconnected about every 12 hours, then reconnected automatically, because I know for sure I did not restart it Wink

yea, the router will automatically try to establish the connection again after the 12hr drop. I'm looking to get another card and get rid of my 5750 I've been using for the past 10 months.

The only problem I see with this is if I happen to be uploading a large file such as a video, and it took longer to upload than I had time left in my 12 hour session. This might be a problem.

I cannot give you a thumbs up or down on the ec228 or the um175. Personally I like the round and flat shape of the ec228 and the ability for it to sit flat away from my computer. I work in crowded public enviroments sometimes and it seems to be less obtrusive in a restrictive busy work space where the um175 would be sticking out of my computer and might get broken off, and it won't sit flat while using the cord. It wants to fall over. Both seem to yield the same speed though, and the um175 has onboard memory, but does not work with cradlepoint yet...

unplug the modem, plug it back in before you do the upload.

Good idea Very Happy

Had a problem with it locking on a weaker Digital signal, but I moved the setup to a new window and we are up and running again:
