On Kyocera's website. I've updated it on my KR2 and so far I've seen the following.
- Added support for more devices.
- Modem dBm Strength indicator.
- Ability to Connect and Disconnect Modem from the Status page.
- Load balancing.
It removes your previous configurations so remember to save them prior to updating. I'm sure the 3G store guy's will have more info. on this than what I can see. |

Uh oh,
I just installed the new firmware, apparently without incident. The settings were overwritten, as expected. When I go to 192,168.0.1 and log in, everything seems ok, and the sceen indicates that it's using the new firmware.
Then the fun starts. I can't navigate off the Status page. I either get timed out or bumped back to the login screen. That means there's no way to reload the previous verson of the firmware.
A hard reset doesn't help.
Any thoughts?

| What are you connecting to KR2 for a WAN connection? |

The "Always On" option in the Reconnect Mode in Advanced Modem settings is nice
Since my Alltel gets disconnected after 12 hours I logged on this morning and it was already connected for 9 hours instead of before the new firmware it would connect as soon as i logged on to the router. |

My WAN connection is to a broadband wireless setup. If I plug this lead into the WAN port, I have the problem I described above when accessing the KR2. It opens on the STATUS screen and will not move from there. If I unplug the WAN feed and access the KR2, it opens on the BASIC screen and operates normally.
I can't reproduce this problem on the previous version of the firmware.

Could you elaborate on this point? Is it something like Clearwire or other WISP? Or do you mean EVDO? I'm confused on the point where you say you plug it into the wired WAN connector. I may be able to reproduce this issue and investigate but I want to make sure of what your specific setup is. |

I'm using a regional wireless provider. Up on the roof, I have a yagi and what the technician called a 'radio" ("Like a modem," he said.). A length of CAT 5 cable runs from the radio, inside the house, to the WAN connection on the router.
I think this is a Motorola Canopy system, if that helps.

| I have seen this before. What solved it for me was, with the WAN connection unplugged, I had to go into the router setup (Basic->Network) and change the Router IP address from something other than 192.168.0.1, like 192.168.10.1. After reboot everything work fine. |

I had set the address to 192.168.1.1, but I don't see any effect on the problem.

Hey Bill, if you're willing and able, it would be extremely useful to have a packet capture log from your computer using the Motorola Canopy system. I think I've found this same exact problem you're describing and I would like to see if your setup is experiencing the same scenario that I have encountered.
Firstly, if you can connect the Ethernet cable coming from the Canopy system to your computer, I'd like to know what the IP address is that they give you via DHCP. This is mainly to determine if they are giving you a public IP address or if they are using private address space for all the users in your area.
Secondly, a Wireshark log of that connection would be very helpful. Wireshark (free download at http://www.wireshark.org/) is a network protocol analyzer. Sometimes it is called a, "packet sniffer" It captures and keeps a log of all packets that are encountered by the Network Interface Card (NIC) in your computer. If you install Wireshark, it will also install a tool called WinPcap, which is a Windows library interface between Wireshark and your NIC.
When you launch Wireshark, select Capture from the top menu, then click Interfaces. This will show you a list of all valid network interfaces on your computer. We need to find your wired NIC, and it should show the same IP address you noted in the first step above. You'll also see the packet counter increment. Simply click Start on that interface and the log will begin.
You will see lots of activity most likely, and the log will begin scrolling with all of the different network events that occur. Leave this running for about 90 seconds and then click Capture on the top menu and select Stop. Then click File and select Save. Save this file on your computer (give it a name like log.pcap). If you're willing to do this, I'll send you my e-mail address via private message so that you can get the log to me. Hopefully I can get this figured out so we can provide a solution. |

Looks like I can't send you a PM with email and other info (fewer than 10 posts, although this should be #10.) Will try afterwards.

Alrighty, I got the log and it was as I expected. Large amounts of ARP requests are being sent across your ISP's network. It's mostly private address space that is being requested and you have a public address which suggests that things may not be operating correctly on the ISP network but I can't say for sure.
In any event, I believe KR2 has an issue processing large amounts of multicast/broadcast traffic (which ARP requests are) and that is causing the issue you're seeing. This almost certainly does not affect users who have EVDO or HSDPA devices as the WAN connection with KR2 and it most likely does not affect cable and DSL users as those networks block multicast packets at the local gateway. In any event, I'll look into a fix and see what we can do. |
