|
|
Yesterday, I replaced my Wilson Cellular 3 watt direct connect amp with the In-Vehicle Wireless amp, and all I gotta say is WOW, what a difference it made for me.
When CradlePoint routers came out with load balancing for multiple modems, I had to figure out a way to amplify two modems with one amp and one antenna. I could either use a combiner with my direct connect amp, or go with the wireless unit that supports connecting multiple devices.
I spoke with Wilson engineers, and was told that the wireless unit was more powerful than the direct connect (35 vs 40), and that the wireless would connect to the modems just as good as the direct connect, and that they would choose the wireless "hands down" over the direct connect.
All I gotta say is I got a huge improvement. With the direct connect, I was getting 60 to 80db readings, and with the wireless unit, it dropped to -51 for both modems (a Sprint 727, and an Alltel UM-150).
Then we got paid the bonus. Our two cell phones went from 2-3 bars to "all bars", and the dead zones came alive.
I am very pleased with the purchase (the 3G Store rocks), and can highly recommend the wireless amp of you are interested in max performance for multiple devices.
I only wished I had bought the wireless to begin with, as now I am stuck with two amps.

| Do you mean that you use the "wireless" connection Wilson Amp in a "direct" connection mode? I've got to believe that it will take the higher levels produced from a direction connection. |

joe, which wireless amp is it? and what is being used as interior antenna? and what range are you getting from that interior antenna?
i'll agree that the wireless amps are "more powerful", but the range of the interior antenna is what presents a challenge for most customers.
this wireless amp is best for "in-vehicle" use, and the "proximity" antenna only allows for one or two foot range for maximum signal gain.
thats fine for providing signal gain to multiple evdo devices attached to a router, but it usually doesn't provide for much signal gain to phone users, even 3ft away. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas/Routers/Amps :: Verizon EVDO :: Sprint EVDO :: Why Buy from 3Gstore? |

I put the modems in close proximity to the "inside" antenna.
I was warned not to directly connect (wire) the devices directly to the amp.

I am using the great Wilson Cellular 40dB In-Vehicle Wireless Dual-Band 800MHz/1900MH from the 3G store!
I am using this wireless amp frome the 3G store.
I think it works well within 12 inches of the inside antenna.
The modems need a bit of separation. I used a velcro strap one modem to each side of the inside antenna, but I think it needs a bit more.

Never seen the UM-150 even get lose to five bars, and report a 100% connection at -51bd. Same with the U727.

Psshhh.....I agree the wireless amps can provide a stronger signal vs. direct connect amps. When a buddy of mine needed extra signal strength he connected his evdo card directly to the wireless amp. In his case THAT was the way to go. He ran it like that for over a year with no problems.
I'm not suggesting you do this but it worked great for him. |
