|
|
The only way we will be able to assess how Sprint is actually enforcing the 5 GB cap is for those who exceed it to post any responses from Sprint. To that end, please add a message to this thread and give the information below only in those billing periods you exceed the cap as reported for your account on the Sprint website. Hopefully we'll determine the real cap beyond which Sprint acts.
1. Date notified of T&C change & how.
2a. Billing period end date and total data usage from Sprint website.
2b. Sprint response, if any.
3. Type of account & date opened.
To keep from diluting its value, let's keep the thread on topic. _________________ Vista64 & EX720

1. Date notified of T&C change & how.
24May08 by bill
2a. Billing period end date and total data usage from Sprint website.
20Jun08, 8.979189 GB*
2b. Sprint response, if any.
No response
3. Type of account & date opened.
Consumer acct opened Aug06
*While this was my actual usage, it serves more as an example as the notice on 24May08 said the T&Cs change (cap) would be effective in 30 days (24 June). _________________ Vista64 & EX720

| Has Sprint actually canceled a user for exceeding the limit yet? |

It will take a couple months or more to figure out how Sprint's going to handle this. I personally think the unstated threshold for expulsion will be more like 15 or 20 GB, but only by user reports of excess usage will be get a sense of it. _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

I'll be coming back to add to this thread in 30 days or so... or sooner if Sprint slaps me.
I'm 2 days away from the end of my first billing cycle that I have been tracking usage. According to my software, I'll be just under 10 gigs for the cycle. According to Sprint, I've got another 3 gigs or so that they think I've used.
(which is another good reason for everyone to put some meter software of some sort on your machine... and see how it relates to Sprint's numbers)
I'm honestly not expecting them to give me grief. I'm a corporate liable account, and I did get one of the "educational" phone calls, but I haven't been noticed of the T&C change.
If nothing hits the fan, and I don't disciplined this next month, I'm planning on adding a Treo with SE to my account. If they slap me, I'm outta here.
I'll be watching this thread. |

Ok you slackers.
My first full month of cap.......Aug 21 - Sep 21
Sprint usage ---- 36gb
My meter usage- 28gb
Received love letter #2 yesterday making sure I was familiar with the terms of my "Sprint Subscriber Agreement." They would like me to make adjustments.
Today is the first day of my new usage period and sprint has me at 2.5gb and I just turned on my computer 1 hour ago.

Hi Sally how ya doin. |
Not that I'm chastising you, what you do with you card is your business, but how are you using so much data? I do about 2 hours of surfing a day, maybe 15 minutes or so of flash videos, and I'm keeping it down to 4-5 gigs. Before the cap, I was on hulu.com 2-3 hours a day using my laptop as a tv and I till wasn't using more than 20 gigs a month. |

Not so fast, Max.....
Can you slap a copy of your "love letter #2" here for the rest of us to see?
And if you're referring to that as "#2", what are you considering "#1" to have been?
I'm fine with "fending for myself"... but wondering what you are doing - are you cancelling? Or was love letter #2 so bad that you pretty much have to cancel?
C'mon, man... some details. You're the first we've heard of anyone having the hammer come down on.
Share the pain, please. |

Hi Sally how ya doin. |
Doin' fine, Max...
Just for the record... Sprint being off by about 25-30% doesn't suprise me... that's in the ballpark of how far off my usage was during that first month, as well. Jury is still out on my month #2.
Hope you share that letter.... and tell us how you got it... email? on your PDF bill? in the mail? or was it the ultra-scary certified return receipt requested? (teasin'!) |

Oh Max... one more thing.... please post on the "what does your plan show" thread - will ya?
At least if you're still showing the "unlimited" as "remaining"... it will drive home the point that "unlimited" doesn't mean squat anymore.
Have a good day! |

Max, are you doing P2P? Do you maybe have virus/spyware generating background traffic? Is it on an open router that your neighbors are using? I'm a heavy user and rarely go over 5-7GB.
One way to check for unknown traffic is to stop any known network activity and look at the data count in Connection Manager to see if it's still increasing significantly. If activity, you might have a virus or something running without your knowledge. |

Maybe he's not counting the digits right, I don't know. I don't think I could use up 2.5 gigs in one day if I tried. Perhaps he's reading 250 megs as 2.5 gigs? He's saying he used 2.5 gigs in an hour...I don't see how that's even possible, these cards are fast, but not that fast. I do know that usage meter is not very accurate, but it does count usage somewhat on the mark. The only problem I've had is for the last two months it has started me off at 850 megabytes instead of zero. |
