|
|
I'm a little concerned... I've been out of the loop for a while now and am just checking in on the forums and am reading that Verizon has acquired Alltel.
I went to check the Sprint roaming (data) maps and found NO grey areas anymore! IE... no roaming. Just 1xRTT and EVDO Rev A native areas.
Is this a fluke in the mapping or did Sprint lose it's roaming deal with Alltel? |

It's still there. You have to click on the data maps. You may have looked at the voice maps. Sprint will still have EVDO roaming even if Verizon acquires Alltel. Sprint/Verizon do roam on each other for 1xRTT afterall. For the Feds to allow the Alltel acquisition, they may even require Verizon to open up their EVDO to roaming, if they allow the acquisition at all.
Sprint's EVDO roaming map is always way out of date BTW. They don't show EVDO roaming in Billings, MT but a friend is able to roam on Alltel EVDO even though the Sprint map doesn't show it.
Here is the Alltel map, which includes Sprint coverage too. Dark blue is EVDO.
Here is the Verizon EVDO map. Would be awesome if the Feds require them to open up EVDO for roaming if they want Alltel. Dark blue is EVDO.

This is a comforting post, but I did look at the data maps. Are you seeing gray roaming areas when you look at the roaming data map on their site?
It's all white for me. |

Just checked and I see what you are seeing, no gray areas. The only time you can see the gray areas is if you zoom all the way out. |

| same here. I see all white areas. No more gray data roaming areas. It does actually work while roaming as of today so it may be just a fluke as the map was just updated on 9/5. |

Looks like the gray areas have returned. However only the EVDO roaming has reappeared. The 1xrtt roaming is still absent.
And ofcorse 1xrtt roaming shows up if you zoom all the way out. |

| One weird thing I noticed is if you zoom in to some of the white areas and just click on a random white area, sometimes the area on the right that shows you the scale and what the colors means will highlight or put a black box around it indicating that the area you clicked is 1xRTT or whatever. |

If you go to http://maps.yahoo.com/ and click on the Sprint banner at the bottom you can get the EVDO and roaming areas, even zoom in on your neighborhood for coverage. _________________ evdo-tips.com |

| I was wondering, on the verizon map. Does the green area (extended enhanced services) represent roaming? |
