I keep hearing more and more about Comcast limiting bandwidth usage for their cable broadband to 250GB / month. People, of course, are complaining about this upcoming cap.

Am I missing something here? ...we are being limited in our usage to 5GB / month and they're complaining about being limited to 250GB?????

Isn't that 50 times more than we have? What do they have to complain about. What am I not getting here?

This is going to be the trend of the future as discussed by PC Magazine and DSLreports. Telus of Canada is simply canceling unlimited aircard accounts and offering to substitute 1 GB plans at $65/month. Frontier Online has implemented a 5 GB cap on its DSL service. Quest simply locks high users out and directs them to its website to read about its nebulous excess usage terms. and Time warner is testing various metered plans. In an article in PCMac.com, John C. Dvorak ended by saying "Although the exact mechanisms for metering are not yet developed, there is no way that the current all-you-can-eat model can continue much longer".

I imagine it will play out something like this.

Comcast's main source of income is cable tv. We are seeing a lot of site popping up like Hulu.com, netflix, and even CBS.com is offering free streaming content, telivision and full length movies, and in some cases, high def videos. Especially with the HD content, you can eat through that 250 gigs pretty fast. Right or wrong, they are just trying to prevent people from replacing that cable box with online content.

People don't know when they are well off do they. I have been waiting for DSL or cable for 9 years now. It is in the next street but when you rely on "all for profit" greedy corporations you could be waiting forever.

This sort of net inequality is very bad for a this country which was once a technology leader but is fast slipping behind the world.
