|
|
I am new to this forum and have searched many posts to see if anyone has had a similar experience as mine. I have Kyocera KPC680 rev a express card. I have been using it directly hooked up to my PC via usb adapter. On speedtest.net I usually achieve download speed of about 750 kps on average and upload speeds of 650 kps on average. Sometimes I achieve way over these, but this is the average. Surfing, download, xbox live, works really well with this setup.
I recently purchased the KR2 (latest firmware is installed) so I could have all my game systems use wifi to hook up to the internet and got my KPC680 to connect just fine. However there seems to be a bottleneck when using the KR2. Surfing the internet via wi-fi from my macbook is painfully slow. Surfing the net from my desktop via ethernet to the KR2 is a lot faster but still not as fast as just having my KPC680 hooked up to desktop directly via usb. Xbox live for the most part seems to work just as well however (still testing xbox live via direct connect and the sharing via ethernet to 360, vs using wifi from kR2).
I ran speedtest.net from my macbook and while the download speed is about the same I can only achieve about a 128 kps upload speed. The same is true when I do this via my desktop pc connected via ethernet to KR2.
Due to the decreased browsing speeds and the fact I cannot achieve the same upload speeds using the KR2 I was wondering if there are some settings on the KR2 to reduce / eliminate this apparent bottleneck. If they are could anyone direct me in the right direction or tell me what I need to change to increase performance??
Sorry for the long post, but thought everyone would need all the above info. to help. I will great appreciate any advice as I will need to know if this bottleneck can be eliminated or not, because if not I need to return this router preferably by this tuesday so as to not exceed my return period.
Thanks in advance |

So you can't exceed speeds of 128kbps via WiFi OR ethernet? |

I cannot exceed speeds of 128kbps via WiFi or ethernet connection to the router. Also browsing speeds via WiFi on my Macbook (FireFox 3) is horrible. It is significantly better browsing via ethernet to router from my desktop pc using Firefox 2. However I have been using Firefox 3 on my macbook previously with no trouble and when I stay at the hotel it is blazingly fast.
My main issue is to get the browsing speeds on par with using modem attached to PC directly via USB. Also to make sure they are no bottle necks when using this router. |

Tried setting your KPC680 to only connect to the EVDO network? Sounds like a case of 1xRTT syndrome to me |

No, I have not done that. How do you? But to be honest I do not think that it is connecting at 1x speeds. I get full signal bars in my house and my cell phone shows EVDO at all times. Plus whenever I do a speed test it is always fast except upload speeds.
I can browse the internet fairly fast from my desktop via ethernet connection to router, but browsing using wifi on my macbook is about like using dial-up.
Could it be some wifi settings I need to adjust to make it faster?
Does anyone know of a tutorial to get the best performance from the router? |

I am having same issues. I believe it is the KR2's wireless capabilites.
Reason I say its KR2 is because I hooked my US robotics wireless router to the eathernet port of Kr2 and when I connect vis my US robotics I get a much faster connection..I am not all that thrilled with my Kr2 to be honest.
My conection is much faster with air card plugged directly into computer. |

| We're using a KPC680 with KR2 router and indoor booster antenna on Alltel rev0 service. We have an iMAC system directly connected into the KR2, and several XP/Vista/Ubuntu systems concurrently sharing the EVDO link via a Wifi/g network from the KR2. Performance (as measured by speedtest) is typically about 800 - 1000 Kb/sec down for any single system when the others are quiet, and they all work well at the same time given the fact that they're sharing the same pipe. We have turned traffic shaping off in the KR2 and use OpenDNS servers -- with firmware version 1.4 in the router. |

Try changing the channels in the KR2 Admin page disable auto channel select and choose channel 1, 11, 6 .
Another tip is if you have a cordless phone, Fluorescent Lights, other wifi routers it can be causing a wifi conflict. Try turning those items off completely and then do a speed test. |

|
|
I had been having constant problems with accessing Verizon EVDO using a Sierra 595 PCMCIA card connected to an amp and to an external yagi antenna. I replaced the Sierra 595 with a Pantech UM175 USB modem which is also supported by the Kyocera KR2 router. What I am experiencing is a frequent loss of the EVDO Broadband connection and with only a National Access 1xRTT connection my speeds plummet.
I actually get a better signal strength from the EVDO transmitter than from the 1xRTT transmitter but both are better than -85db and I can get a EVDO Broadband Rev A connection so long as the signal strength is better than -96db. But this is with the Pantech UM175 modem connected directly to the USB port of a laptop running XP Pro. Download speeds average over 400Kbps (Broadband) and about 25% of the time I would get a Broadband Rev A connection and get speeds over 700Kbps and upload speeds averaging over 400Kbps.
With the USB modem in the Kyocera KR2 and computers connected via Ethernet directly into the router, the upload speeds range between 70-80Kbps and connections are much less stable. Downloads while slower through the Kyocera are reduced by 25% on average, while upload speeds are consistently reduced by 85%.
Ping times are increased by 200-300% when using the Kyocera KR2 router with Ethernet connected computers so there is clearly overhead of some sort with the router that is significantly slowing data traffic going upstream to the tower. |
