I have an MBR1000 and just updated from Firmware 1.2 to 1.31. But now the MBR1000 frequently disconnects from my DSL Modem (AT&T Siemens SpeedStream 4100). The connection resets about once every 10 to 30 seconds. When I use my AT&T Sierra 875U, it works fine.

I reflashed with Firmware 1.2 and DSL works normally again. My DSL modem is set to handles the PPPoE itself (i.e. MBR1000 doesn't need to login). Has anyone else experienced this? Hope it will be fixed with the next firmware.

Hi commasign,

You are not alone. I have the same problem with a Verizon USB 727. Cradlepoint send me a replacement modem with 1.3.1 installed, it worked for about one day, then started the disconnect dance. I have gone back to my original MBR1000 with 1.2 which works perfectly.

Contact Cradlepoint support, they will help you resolve the issue.

best, sbi108

How about a little more info? Run it for a few hours and then safe the log that you can find in the configurations under "Status" and "Logs".

It should say something about it disconnecting and maybe why as well.

Sorry, but I shouldn't have to be a beta tester for every new firmware. Firmware 1.2 is working just fine for me. As for contacting tech support, have any of you ever tried contacting Cradlepoint? They never answer the phone, never return messages, and take 2 to 3 days to reply to emails! And then when they do reply to your email, it's to suggest that you call their help line! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my MBR1000. But Firmware 1.31 really should have been tested before being released. I'll just wait for 1.32 or 1.4.

I have notified CradlePoint of this issue, and they are looking into it. Keep in mind that these routers are designed for EVDO devices, and probably aren't tested with every DSL/Cable ISP in the US.

Hi commasign,

I am sorry to hear that you have had difficulties with Cradlepoint's support. I have had very timely and good results from my Cradlepoint email service requests. So not everyone has the same experiences. I do agree that the 1.3.1 release may be problematic for some people like you and me. But Cradlepoint has been very responsive to my needs.

best to you, sbi108

Thanks for the comments. Just to clarify, I have gotten replies from CradlePoint email support. But it's tough playing email tag over a period of several days for something that could be resolved over 5 minutes by phone. In the half dozen or so times I've tried calling tech support, I've never gotten to speak with a live person. Phone either keeps ringing, or I leave a message but no one calls back.

I have been searching the forums for others with this same problem, finally found this thread! I too updated to the latest firmware on my MBR1000, have the Verizon USB 727, and immediately after the update I got the same problems, connecting over WiFi from a XP laptop and a Vista desktop. My problem was not just modem disconnect but the router itself appeared to be rebooting - modem light orange, lights go off, all lights on, modem appears to reconnect, laptop acquires address, then it all drops again. This occurred right after the update, but after rebooting things, was fine for a while (only periodic since the FW update). I worked from home all day Tuesday with no real problems, then yesterday BAM it started happening again and was toast. I got it working long enough last night to send an email I had to get out, by resetting the config to factory, but that only lasted about 20 mins. Got up early this morning to work on it, put the modem on my laptop and I thought the card was a goner, but finally got it working after a VZAccess reinstall, setting the network from HDR to automatic, and another activation. Put the modem back in the router - same problem again. The router maintains a WiFi transmission as long as the modem is not plugged into the router, and the modem maintains a connection only directly from my laptop - the modem and the router are no longer playing together. Unfortunately my laptop tries to use WiFi as the internet connection if I'm connected to it too so I turned off the laptop WiFi to use the modem directly (and the router has my printer hooked to it but I don't use it that often anyway), didn't feel like making changes to force it to use the card.

So - apparently there is a problem with the MBR1000 firmware at the very least with the USB 727, it's not just me or a problem with the router itself. How can I get back to 1.2? When I go back into the office tomorrow, I'd like my husband to be able to use the pc as he has become used to, otherwise I'll have to change around some connections so he can get online and print if he needs to (he's a little technically-challenged but does ok with instructions!).

If I don't see a response here on getting back to 1.2 or fixing this some other way, I'll submit a support ticket, but thought others might can use the advice as well. I liked the new firmware otherwise, and was contemplating another card for the load balancing. I'm grandfathered into unlimited and though I still haven't gone over 5 gb just hate the thought of being limited, and considering an Alltel if I do.

Thanks!

Lori

Lori, I had similar problems with my Verizon V740 aircard/MBR1000 after updating to firmware version 1.31. . I went back to ver. 1.20 and all was back to normal. I am hoping Cradlepoint will release a new version that will work for me. Anyway, just go to Cradlepoints website and download version 1.2 and install on your Cradlepoint router just as you installed 1.3.1. That is all there is to it. Also......... dependent on when you bought your MBR1000, you may just be able to do a simple reset as your MBR1000 may have been sent from the factory with ver 1.20 firmware.

For Cradlepoint MBR1000 firmware go here..

You can down load 1.2 from the following link: http://www.cradlepoint.com/mbr1000/u_mbr_2008_04_09.bin

Then go to Tools->Firmware and do the manual "upgrade".

I would still advise you to open a support ticket though so Cradlepoint knows about it and can fix it.

Has there been a FW update recently? Are you on the RevA network?

FW 1.3.1 is the current, I didn't update to it right away but did after a few days when people seemed to be having virtually no problems with it (after having problems with the first attempt at releasing the FW with load balancing).

I am on the RevA network, have been for a year now, about the same time I got this "new" card. Have had Verizon cellular internet since 2005, no other broadband-like alternatives where I live, and have been generally pleased with it. Sure I'd love to have cable or DSL out here but I think even if I did, I'd keep the cellular too, as a failback and for away from home access.

Hi Lori,

You describe my experience with the MBR1000 and Verizon USB727 exactly. I had the same problems when I updated my original MBR1000, purchased from 3GStore in March, with 1.3.1.

I contacted the support team at Cradlepoint and they sent me a replacement modem with 1.3.1 installed.

I manually configured it for my needs. It worked for about 7 hours, then started behaving as you and I have described before.

I sent the replacement back with my configuration in place. They are testing it now to try to determine the nature of the problem. I am using my original MBR1000 with 1.2 firmware, it works perfectly.

stay tuned, sbi108

Sorry I should have been more clear - I mean have you updated the firmware on the U727?

Not that I'm aware of, recently at least. I'm not sure if FW updates automatically or not, and until last night I had not had it connected via VZA since July so would not have noticed any update messages of course. It's been connected to the router 95% of the time since I got the router in April 08. When I connected last night I received messages that indicated I was not in a broadband area and must be to activate (though I was showing 3 of 4 bars in BB RevA) and that I needed to call a number to activate. I decided to look at again this morning since it was after 11 pm anyway. I uninstalled/reinstalled, tried activation, it failed, then went into diag and changed from HDR to automatic, refreshed, tried activation again, and it succeeded - it's possible it updated firmware then.

I took a break from work and reverted the MBR1000 FW back to 1.2, changed my modem setting back to HDR, set my network back up, plugged the modem back to the router, and I have been fine ever since, no lost modem or router connections. My problem is definitely something jointly with the router FW 1.3.1 and the U727.
