I have learned that the only way to get a truly accurate assessment of your usage is to monitor the data that passes through either your card or your router. Software monitors can only tell you what passes through your PC. |
So I'm clueless. (but woman enough to admit it! lol) ... Does SurplusMeter measure what goes through the card?
I'm just running an ex720 on a MacBook Pro. No fancy schmancy other routers, cams, etc. |
If your computer is the only one using that card, then your software should be accurate. I have to remember to shut mine down (bitmeter2 for windows) when I log on to a wi-fi site, then start it up again when I use my Sprint card. The point he was trying to make is if you have the card in a router asnd sharing the connection with others, or use it with another computer or device. |

Wayne speaks O'Shark very well . That was my point. In my case, I have security cameras and a fiance' who uses a different machine that a program like Bitmeter would not track. The real drag is tracking the data. I do it twice a day. I get my Sprint reading in the morning first then pull the numbers off my router. I do the same thing in the evening. I have to do it that way because I'm in a fringe area. If I lose my signal for a few minutes, the stored numbers reset. I'll do this for another month or two so I can get confidence in Sprint's accuracy....or inaccuracy.
It sounds like you are doing all you can do, Sally. |

Well Oshark, I've been at it about three months. The first two months, I found that Sprint was very forgiving. I used about 6 gigs the first month, a tad under 5 the second. Sprint had me tabulated at 4.5 the first and not quite 4 gigs the second. Month three went awry. I checked it at 6am on the turnover day, Sprint had me down for no usage. I then turned my laptop off and went to work. At lunch, Sprint still had me down as no usage. I played a few games of Slingo and checked a few message boards I frequent along with this one. 45 minutes later, I turned it off and went back to work. At 5:30 pm on day one I checked my usage to see how much Spring had me down for on my lunch time usage. 800 megabytes. I have no idea where the 800 megabytes came from but there they were. It's not possible to consume 800 megabytes with a powered down laptop. So, I logged on to a wi-fi hotspot, kept bitmeter2 running to get it up to a matching number. So far, so good, since the 15th, they have me at 1.3 gigs, bitmeter2 is matching. The moral of my story is Sprint is only accurate when they want to be, it's subject to wild fluctuations. |

Cool. Thx.
No big rush, though, as my contract doesn't end until November. It just wasn't worth it to me to fight with Sprint to be able to avoid the ETF with so little time left until I'm automatically free. And right now I'm nowhere near hitting the cap anyway. |

Well I am up and running with these guys. So far the support has been excellent. I had to plug my USB card directly into my pc to configure the new account details. It is supposed to be up and running and connected to the network in 4 hours max. After about 8 hours it still wouldn't connect and I went into a menu in the Sprint Broadband Manager and hit a refresh button and the card started working. I can be more specific if anyone wants the details. Now I have the card plugged into my EVDO router and all is working well.
I am glad that I made the move. |

Thanks. Please report back in a month or so about whether you've been tagged for using too much bandwidth or not. |

I certainly will but there has been no mention of any cap so far.
